What I recall from back then is the ones who claimed it was a US backed coup were soon denying that the "Little Green Men" were Russian soldiers and Russia had no intention on annexing Crimea and it was a wholly independent separatist movement, despite them having the latest Russian tanks and unlimited ammunition.

Strange how they turned out to be Russian soldiers and Russia went on to annex Crimea.

The argument then was if the separatist movements in the rest of Ukraine(now free republics) were also Russian and who shot down the civilian airplane(it was Ukraine.)

And this is the sad thing. The real tragedy gets overlooked as every single thing is met with scepticism. I looked at this headline this morning and my first thought was not about the girl, but whether it was real or not.
