I suspect the entire Donetsk and Luhansk areas are considered breakaway states by Putin.

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson said it would be "a flagrant violation of the sovereignty and integrity of Ukraine" and break international law. He said it was "a very ill omen and a very dark sign".

The EU said it would "react with unity, firmness and with determination in solidarity with Ukraine".

That Russia is so terrified of NATO is testament to every day Russian's cold, pragmatic attitude toward life. They know that seemingly civilized men can turn into vicious dogs at the drop of a hat and those men in NATO are no different. Just my 5 cents. It's a realistic attitude.
