US Army testing bullet-resistant electric bakkie

The US Army has started testing a Kevlar-fitted electric bakkie from EV startup Canoo.

The prototype Light Tactical Vehicle (LTV) appears to be a modified version of Canoo's modular pickup truck, first unveiled in early 2021.

Interesting indeed.

The MWRAPs contain quite a bit of aramid fiber already.
There must be quite a bit of carbon and I would guess HDPE or HDPP is also being looked at for the plates over ceramic or metal.

The glass - probably glass clad polycarb?

Interestingly, aramid fiber (Kevlar and competitors) is mostly used for wrapping optic fiber cables.

Electric engines make some sense for military vehicles intended for field use due to their wide torque band. There is currently a technology demonstrator of the M1 Abrams tank (the AbramsX) which uses a hybrid diesel-electric system. In addition to the torque band this also allows for silent running on electric only.

The Canoo has a pull-out bed extension to effectively convert it from a bakkie to a flatbed truck for carrying longer construction material or tactical equipment.
I'm suitably confused, is this a bakkie, a truckie, an actual canoo (as in a thing you use in water), or is it a naai ding?

If they do a suspension lift and then fit at least two oversized tyres, Canoo can sell it as the limited edition Douche ...
