Yep, rusted nails and acid for morning porridge, and they toss a couple of grenades in their curry to spice it up a bit :p At least that's what I heard.

Now I think about it, it may have been a tad exaggerated :D

I agree. The grenades are a bit much.

:D

Seriously - those guys are insane. Make the US SF look like a bunch of girl scouts.
I know, I spoke to 2 of them while they were visiting in SA.

They are freakish.

Up to 30 I would imagine (random guess) especially if you have a degree and work experience. They let Mexicans with tattoos join I doubt they'll mind.

If you can cut it in SA, you can cut it anywhere imo!

I think they recently increased the age limit to about 40. I don't understand why the US has done this. The only chance a proper Yank has of a job right now is the military as the economy is so screwed. A couple weeks back 1,000 people applied for 35 firefighter jobs in Miami.

I guess thats the price a country must pay when you open your border gates like flood gates.

Adding States to the federation takes up a lot of man power.....

Not letting in a flood of immigrants is *gasp* racist

hrm.. America like Australia is a country of immigrants.

Anyways this is kinda weird.. but having said that it depends on what you will be doing there for them. If you will be the ones running out there while the 'proper' American's take cover then its not exactly wise is it? 2ndly with a degree etc it would be interesting to see what they make you do tho with ground forces i think everyone has to do basic training etc and respond when called for action.

Getting killed.. lol, uhm i think the odds are higher than people are letting on. And again, i have to question the 'value' placed on the immigrant lives, especially in the US army.

Still that doesn't justify letting in all and sundry. Especially giving blanket amnesty to the illegal immigrants.

One of the reasons why U.S didn't allow immigrants into the armed forces was because of the risk of it becoming a foreign mercenary army. Exactly as you said the lower 'value' on their lives would make it more likely to use force.

As for the likelihood of getting killed. 1.5 million serviceman have served in Iraq and Afghanistan and less than 5 000 have been killed. In S.A we have 44 million people of which well over 150 000 people have been killed over the same time frame. You do the math.

Of course that's even if you're sent there in the first place. You could end up serving with the tens of thousands of U.S troops in South Korea

Yes but of the 5000 killed, 4800 were foreign recruits, and there was in total only 6000 foreign recruits.

Not true of course. :D

That figures though. In South Africa the criminals are protected, and you have all these silly laws about warning shots - that's if you can get through the hassle of getting a gun license approved ... so lots of people don't even have guns.

In the army, you travel in packs :)D), you carry big weapons, you have body armor, you've been through hellish training - and if anybody points a gun at you, they're fair game.

I reckon that'll drop the odds a bit :p

I will seriously consider this depending on what the US reply is. I always wanted to join the army growing up but our army is a joke so I never really considered it.

I wonder if being an engineer will help me getting in.

They would probably look at their needs.

Could possibly push you into the engineer corps.

Still, like you, I am very interested.

Let's see what Gdiza comes up with.

Maybe the navy has something similar going? Doubt it though

Ja.

It's their Army that's stretched.

Their South Atlantic Fleet alone, is larger than all the others.

Scary indeed.

Surely it would be of some advantage for getting into the army. Incidentally a friend of mine was a navy diver at the same time you were there. Not sure if he'd be interested in this.
