If you are elected to an influential position in public life, in addition to the abilities, experience and qualifications, you should pick someone with 'good character'. It's unlikely that the Senate would confirm someone convicted of fraud, for example, even if the fraud was committed 30 years ago and has no relevance to the current role.

Mate, good character went out the window. Republicans and Trumpets made sure of it, this is the new norm now which they demanded.

It feels like Zuma supporters questioning JS because JS was involved in one affair 10 years ago and look JS is just matric.

But, tbh, brit is just here to poke a bit and get reaction. He was a #NeverTrumper if I recall correctly.

Well, yes, but she didn't assault or murder anyone. She wrote a letter in support of someone who had been a friend for 30 years and she had never seen that side of him. She condemned the crimes committed by Mason and later clarified that her support for Mason was based on the person she knew for almost 30 years, writing that "the person who committed these crimes is not the Lance Mason familiar to me." That could happen to any of us, it's not really a reflection of anything other than that she gave a friend a second chance - which she maybe shouldn't have done but it's not really enough to condemn her for, IMO. I mean, I don't know enough about her to support her either, but if she is to be criticized let it be on something really worth being critical of.
I would tend to agree that it shows a mistake, rather than a character flaw necessarily.
I don't know enough about her otherwise to really comment.

He's going to have problems getting the SecDef pick passed in the Senate, as Dems do not seem to be enamoured with him either. Seems to have been picked because he was buddies with Biden's son, Beau. No foreign policy experience. Embarrassing stuff.

It's just so bloody weird that these kinds of "fit for office/purpose" questions weren't raised during the Trump years

I very clearly remember Chris liking Trump when his stock market portfolio was looking good. If Biden does the same he shouldn't care how many pussies are being grabbed.

Yeah, just because I liked him doesn't mean I support him - argument will follow.

Biden should have higher standards than Trump for public positions, agree?

And I'm pretty sure Trump's nominations for public positions were raised - especially by Democrats - with regards to 'fit for purpose'.

Of course, but the crucial difference between Trump being elected and the Housing and Urban Development Secretary being confirmed is the former is elected by the people electoral college while the other can only be confirmed by the Senate.
Oh, slight correction - see above - he lost the people (popular) vote

No dude, they should have the same *HIGH* standards. That should be the expectation of the office no matter who is there. WTF is wrong with you that you think like this and think that this is ok?

At some point you do realise that what we're talking about isn't just a game? What is at stake is actual government effectiveness and the wasting or not wasting of millions of taxpayer dollars.
