This is typical "MuSt DEfenD TRump AT aLL CoSTS" logic.

Even if 1 person took bleach because of what Trump said, that is still unacceptable and illustrates the reckless ignorance that Trump displays, when he just goes off script.

Yes the people who take the bleach should have the presence of mind to understand how ridiculous it is, but look at Qanon? For 3 years people have been told to trust only what Trump says, ignore the media, Trump knows best.

So it is not much of a leap for some people to go yeah ok sir Trump, I will drink bleach because you said it would kill Corona.

I cannot understand why people defend these things.

Trump screwed up with that statement. Call him out for it.
Trump didn't tell anyone to drink bleach.

Give people some agency FFS.

I cant even this is so stupid. If some idiot drinks bleach then that is his problem. You can't blame anyone else for a stupid person being stupid.
Trump is responsible for what he says.

He is not responsible for the people who drink the bleach.

He is responsible for the statement that put those people on that path. He asks people to trust him, he must respect that trust.

Trump didn't tell anyone he is some super genius hunting down a super secret cabal of pedos that have run the world for centuries.

But here we are, with people killing for a 4chan sh!+ post.

Trump asks people to trust and believe in him and he should reciprocate with that trust.

So can we hold people responsible for the harm caused by "defund the police?

Nah, they have their own weird standards.
I thought we were talking about how they failed to denounce an instance of blatant racism in this thread, you really think that it's not a double standard they've got?

No one said he can't be criticised based on his ideas or actions. What I am talking about is criticising him because of his skin colour.

Surface did not do that, rather he resorted to a racial epitaph. As a card-carrying progressive who I am told is woke to the problems of racism, you surely would agree that using that term was disgusting.

He could have said anything: bootlicker etc. But no, he made a reference to his skin colour.

Are those people the President of the USA? Are they in authority?

Is there cause and effect from the statement.

So it depends.

If you yell fire in a theatre and people die, you are responsible.

I know they think like that. That is just the way they are.

A good dose of honesty is needed on this forum.

When someone is sexist, or racist, or homophobic, or transphobic generally those that disagree with that persons politics, calls him/her out. Those that agree, generally keep quiet.

I can think of the sexist comments made about Greta, or AOC, or Kayleigh, or when there was an actual Nazi on this forum who took a quote from Mein Kampf and tweaked it to threaten me. Those that did the calling out stuck to their tribe, in general. Some outliers.

I have never heard someone call anyone a "Thabo", but I have been out of SA a long time, so blurry on the context ans its purported colloquial usage, but @Mephisto_Helix did do a reasonable explanation of the term, which made sense and yes in such a context, as used here, is racist and as some people have rightly done, called the user out for it. He should apologise.

"Trump is the bodyguard to Western civilization"

If you think voters are the audience for any of this, it's just bats**t; but when you realise it's *all* for the benefit of one guy's delicate ego it makes sense.
