Well right now the situation is that the Democrats are being hit hard on this front in the media markets (as per Dave Wasserman's tweet). If you, as a voter, don't see any actual response to this from the Democrats, some thoughts might pop up in your head...

You're probably right that Biden's response is inadequate, but I also don't want him to spout off dangerous agitprop, which is Trump's whole game. Look what happens when you demonize the protesters:

Two Killed and One Injured on Third Night of Unrest in Kenosha, Wis.
The violence occurred early Wednesday during a confrontation between demonstrators and a group of men armed with guns as protests continued over the police shooting of Jacob Blake.

You might think that an unequivocally harsh, law-and-order response is warranted, but I do not agree.

The Democrats needs to be working on this right now. Slicing and dicing some smart adverts.

Sure, if your entire target market are never-Trumpers looking for the most Republican-ie Democrat to vote for in November.

Never-Trumpers aren't the base 'tho... Sure, we welcome 'em, but the ads to be cutting right now are how Dems will *continue* to fund police, while reallocation some of the funding and responsibilities to public safety and community support.

It's the balance that will resonate Chris, not the extreme.

Quite a cool article about the changing evolution of swing states. I can't see Minnesota being won this year by the Don but it will definitely be in proper play in 2024 and it's quite a nice electoral prize of 11 electoral votes. Minnesota hasn't voted for a R in decades as far as I'm aware - think it was one of only 2 or three 3 states that Reagan didn't win in his 1984 landslide.

Yeah, the people burning, looting, abusing animals or generally just being a bunch of thugs are not agitating anyone at all. It's Trump's speech that is making people pick up guns to kill each other.

Did I say that?

With the riots who even knows. It's just the big cities keeping some of these states Democrat.

CROOKED CARNIVAL: ‘ETHICS VIOLATIONS LEFT AND RIGHT’

Trump’s White House Convention May Be Coercing Staffers Into Violating The Hatch Act
While Trump is exempt from the law banning political activity by government workers in government facilities, hundreds of White House employees are not.

President Donald Trump’s insistence on using the White House for much of his nominating convention may be pressuring hundreds of staff into violating a federal law prohibiting political activity on government property, ethics experts said.

While the president and vice president are exempt from the Hatch Act, employees who work at the White House ― both political appointees and civil servants ― are not exempt, meaning any federal employee who helped stage the various video productions at the Republican National Convention this week or the speeches by Trump and first lady Melania Trump could be exposed to the law’s penalties, which can range from a reprimand to being fired.

America's got talent, just not political talent

The US presidential elections have the feel of the popular talent competition, America's Got Talent (AGT).

Like the reality TV show, they are entertaining, emotional and highly competitive, and focus exclusively on the candidates' talent and character or lack thereof, rather than anything that resembles political substance or agenda.

This is reinforced by the mainstream media's "horse race journalism", focusing mainly on the odds, through daily broadcasts of polls throughout.

From the Politico Playbook

WSJ’S @rebeccaballhaus: “WH official says the naturalization ceremony in the convention program tonight didn’t violate the Hatch Act b/c the WH ‘publicized the content of the event on a public website this afternoon and the campaign decided to use the publically available content for campaign purposes.’”

FORMER OBAMA WHITE HOUSE ASSOCIATE COUNSEL DANIEL JACOBSON: “As a lawyer who used to enforce the Hatch Act at the White House, this is absolutely not how it works. If they filmed it knowing and intending that it would be used at the convention (which they obviously did), it violates the law. … The Hatch Act makes it illegal for a federal official to, among other things, ‘use his official authority or influence for the purpose of … affecting the result of an election.’ 5 USC 7323(a)(1). Note the phrase ‘for the purpose of.’”

Not sure many people care though.

The current administration has been doing this since day one. Here is Kellyanne, regular and repeat lawbreaker:

Surely you can appreciate when people start with the "law and order" nonsense, all of us just laugh. They don't give a toss about laws or order, unless they can use it to their advantage. Zero actual principles or decency. Criminals the lot of them.

Some legal technicality that I'm not even sure is a thing vs looting, burning and rioting.

STUNT PREZ: PAPERS OVER YEARS OF RACISM

Trump Courts Minorities With Convention Stunts Despite Long History Of Stoking Racism
His policies harm people of color, but he used their stories as political props at this week’s Republican National Convention.

President Donald Trump’s surprise pardon of a Black man and his staging of a naturalization ceremony as the Republican National Convention kicked off its second night on Tuesday was aimed at bolstering his image as someone who isn’t hostile to people of color.

But the narrative spun at the GOP convention this week of an inclusive president ― beginning with testimonials from prominent African American politicians and athletes who spoke Monday ― is sharply contradicted by Trump’s long history of stoking racism and his attempts to scare white people about Black “mobs” and crime.
