Then who according to you is planning this attack? Bear in mind this is not the first Pride march in Jozi.

Who knows.

But I'd say a group like the EFF has more chance of attacking a gay pride march in SA and they wouldn't let something like that screw up phuza Saturday, would they?

Having said that, I could be wrong. But yeah, first world problems.

Anyone has any insight on why Sandton out of all the cities in the world or if 29th Oct is a date of significance in history / scriptures? Would have thought SA should be relatively safe from stuff like terrorists / WW3...

So odd. Could it be related to e.g. an Israeli issue? Or ANC politics? Why does our own govt not warn US?????

For some time now South Africa does not have any meaningful intelligence channels. For the biggest part, they rely on intercepted mobile communications from the various services providers and whatever any single police officer could bring in. As for something this big, South Africa simply does not have the capabilities in terms of intelligence.

EFF isn't actively anti LGBT+. Furthermore, the previous pride marches went ahead without a word from them. The loudest anti-LGBT+ party in ZA is ACDP, but they're not known for violence. The RET faction of the ANC is also not pro-LGBT+ but they've never before pursued the issue actively.

Yup. But then which groups are actively/vocally anti-LGBT+?

Regardless, this is all just pointless banter and speculation.

South African special forces are actively participating against Islamist insurgents in Mozambique. That could potentially trigger something back home. We have a not insignificant Somali (great exporters of Islamic extremism) and Mozambican diaspora here.

South Africa has also been warned for years that we are vulnerable to terrorism taking root because of vulnerabilities in our law enforcement and intelligence agencies.
