Let's see what happens we assume the Americans are legendary in intelligence and warfare but that's our Hollywood indoctrinated minds talking.

When the chips are down and SAPS/HAWKS are after you they will get you if they want.
I don't assume they're legendary, but I do assume they have about 10million times more of a clue than the hawks.

Why would they attack Clicks or H&M? And yet here we are...

My point was that of any groups violently attacking things, I can't think of one far-right "white" one with an open anti-LGB agenda. But as I said earlier, I could be wrong.
The EFF is vocally pro-LGBTQ+ in its policies though. You couldn't think of a group that is anti-LGBTQ so chose the one that's pro?

SA law enforcement says the US is wrong and there is no evidence supporting a terrorist attack.

Oh yeah HAWKS vs CIA ....

I don't see where they say the US is wrong. The US report has been authenticated as to be true, but we haven't been provided with evidence. Our state took the position that it is their duty, that once evidence is provided to check up on it.

It is also stated as such in the warning,

The U.S. government has received information that terrorists may be planning to conduct an attack targeting large gatherings of people at an unspecified location in the greater Sandton area of Johannesburg, South Africa, on 29 October 2022. There is no further information regarding the timing, method, or target of the potential attack. The U.S. Embassy has advised staff to avoid crowds of people and other large public gatherings in the greater Sandton area of Johannesburg during the weekend of 29-30 October 2022.

For all means and purposes, this is advisory as it is precautionary. We didn't tell the US that they were wrong, only that they didn't have anything to go by.

The only thing the EFF is pro at is being divisive, looting banks and whatever serves their interests on any given day.

Sorry to have insulted your party of choice there, stallion.

It wasn't personal, was just an example to illustrate a point.

Worry not citizens, the SA government have said there's nothing to see and no evidence that there's a pending threat. They say the intelligence services (who did so well in July) found no evidence that a terror attack is imminent. I myself am rather reassured and will go on with my trip to Sandton and other gatherings this weekend.

Our intelligence services think a garage door opener is some NSA level high tech bugging equipment.

No evidence of Sandton terrorism threat, says SA government

Minister in the presidency, Mondli Gungubele has downplayed threats of a terrorism attack scheduled for Sandton, Johannesburg this weekend.

“I have checked this with my security unit and I will be saying up front we are a bit disturbed. This alarm has been going on but up to this point it is not backed up by any evidence,” Gungubele told SABC News.

"Our teams have been following the matter for them to give evidence and they have not been able to do that," he added.

Gungubele’s office oversees state security, which reports directly to the president after the scrapping of the intelligence ministry last August.

The US would need to cooperate with the local authorities. Unless the threat exists within our authorities. I don't see where Gungubele downplayed the threats because they need to act on reports and when not provided with sources, leads or any evidence it is intelligence cast in the dark.

It doesn’t diminish the threat, but our authorities would need to be assisted to narrow the threat down.

I am sure there is cooperation, to share intelligence, but the media is pushing to be provided with 'news', hence you get slapped with news like this.

As they were supposed to. That's the point.
yes, by warning of the attack they prevent it. There is no element of surprise anymore.

If nothing happens then great - if nothing was going to happen then it doesn't matter anyway.
There never was any concrete evidence from the Americans even then, even after their warnings. You'd think they'd provide more info thereafter as they did before.

I am not saying there is nothing to this warning but they need to do better than to say they have no further information othr than a possible terrorist attack.

For one, you just described every political partner that ever existed.

Second, the EFF isn't my political party of choice. I don't need to support a party to call out bullsh*t.

Well they do need to be careful of crying wolf, if this "intel" was just an anon phone call then that is dumb... however if its genuine intel from a trusted source then its a good thing they shared it.

Are these the same Merikans that failed to detect an insurrection on 6 January? Now they going to detect an attack in Sandton?

But you didn't call out FF's calling out of some imaginary, white Afrikaner, right-wing, gay-hating group with enough of an anti-LGB+++ agenda to commit terrorism, did you?

So, it's one of two things. Either your party of choice is the EFF and I've managed to insult you. Or, you're just very selective in your calling out of "bullsh*t".
