Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis suspended liberal State Attorney Andrew Warren on Thursday.

DeSantis made the announcement during a Thursday press conference broadcast on social media. DeSantis argued that Warren has repeatedly refused to enforce laws passed by the legislature cracking down on child sex change surgeries and abortion restrictions.

"We are suspending Soros-backed 13th circuit state attorney Andrew Warren for neglecting his duties as he pledges not to uphold the laws of the state," DeSantis' office said in a statement. The 13th circuit falls over Florida's Hillsborough County.

"The constitution of Florida has vested the veto power in the governor, not in state attorneys," DeSantis said. "We are not going to allow this pathogen of ignoring the law get a foothold in the state of Florida."

So what actual evidence is there that he is a "Soros backed" lawyer?

Much more vexing to Floridians is whether the governor's surname is pronounced Dee-Santis or Deh-Santis? While bombing west along the 183 superslab the other day I heard him on the wireless, and he says Dee-Santis. It's all rather perplexing.

I couldn't read the article due to paywall, but I did find that he sponsored his campaign. I also found this

Under George Soros’s leadership, the Open Society Foundations support individuals and organizations across the globe fighting for freedom of expression, accountable government, and societies that promote justice and equality.

I'm already skeptical of all the anti-semitism posts that always bring up Soros.

NY Times paywall is easy to bypass. Just quickly press "Esc" while the page is loading. (Note I'm using Brave browser)

Why is it anti-Semitism to critique Soros? He's not even a practising Jew. That's like claiming Islamophobia when you critique someone from Middle-Easter decent that's not even Muslim.
Using shields like these to defend someone when he is criticised on the grounds of his political/ideological beliefs deminishes the meaning of the word.

Thanks for that! I'll give it a try :)

I think isolated the criticism isn't enough justification for defending Soros, however the history that Soros has or why his name would be "taboo" is regarding the conspiracies surrounding him and his goals. It's complicated as there isn't a unified conspiracy(just as there isn't one with Bill gates), it's just that by linking someone to someone, they should seem suspicious.

It was perfectly fine to criticize the lawyer without bringing Soros up at all in my eyes, and just seems like an odd thing to add unless he is acusing Soros of something else?

Linking the Lawyer to Soros points to the agenda behind the lawyer. There is no conspiracy in saying Soros is backing certain individuals in order to reach his goals. If you have money and want to see a certain outcome achieved, then that's what you do.
It's just like other wealthy people that donate to whatever cause they want to promote.

The problem with these people is that they are often so far disconnected from reality that the solutions they are pushing for is just plain wrong for the average working person.

Why don't you go follow the Newsom circus. More woke crap going down there and should be right up your alley.
What makes you think I'm pro-Newsom? Lemme guess, if someone criticises your guy they're the enemy. I don't want to mess with your last remaining polarised brain cell so I'll just leave.

You didn't critique anything. You made an offhand remark without any substance.
If you have a legitimate issue, you can raise it, then it's pretty easy to gauge how much you actually know about the guy or his policies.

I made a comment, a statement and @Mekon went off on a tangent about "woke crap" being right up my alley and you take issue with substance? Lol.

Again, you made an offhand comment without substance. It's understandable that he would then lump you in with the "woke" group given that this is predominately the group that are dissenters of his. Although I expect this group to grow if he moves closer to being a candidate for President
So as I said give your actual critique of the man and then you won't be painted as such.

No, it's not understandable. Try again.
