US Government warns SA stakeholders to start making plans for Eskom grid collapse, even if unlikely

They are all too happy about the situation so they can use us for cultivating green hydrogen

That communist nest of the USA must keep their noses in their own affairs. Russia and China, their overlords are already busy with SA.

Well I have been effectively forced to relocate my factory to the EU. Although it was not the government per say, it was my clients.
Loadshedding is not an excuse for non-delivery. Although in this instance the fines were less than what running back-up power would have cost me.
But to keep my contract I have to relocate.

SA grid isn't remotely close to collapse.

Eskom has about 59GW of capacity.
Load shedding is about 1GW per stage.
Stage 8 is roughly 8GW. Lets make it 10 to be generous.

Systems are in place to reduce demand very quickly in South Africa. Everyone is used to this and prepared for it. There would need to be an absolutely catastrophic level event to cause a cascading collapse, and such an event would likely knock out any other power utility.

Eskom has about 59GW of capacity of which 20GW is offline (broken).

FTFY

Strictly speaking what could cause a grid collapse would be something like all communications going down at Eskom's control center. Them not being able to tell anyone how much power to cut off demand is the only way I could see it happening.
