US issues new TRAVEL WARNING for citizens visiting South Africa

Tom Head - Yesterday 13:38

An attack on four tourists at Kruger National Park last week appears to have spooked a number of international authorities. In a travel warning issued on Wednesday, a regional US Embassy has told Americans to avoid the Numbi Gate region of Mpumalanga.

The stern advisory tells US travellers to ‘seek alternative routes’ into KNP. Earlier today, we reported that the government is considering ‘the closure’ of Numbi Gate, due to a spike in criminal activity. A failed carjacking earlier this month resulted in the death of a German tourist.

They should also warn every travel agency to actually do some research and outreach. They have tours where they offer to bring you through durban CBD and that's just as stupid, as tourists walk around with their expensive phones and cameras out.

Same for the gate, that gate has been a no-go when I went many years ago, most people here that have been would have recommended to stay away.

Im hoping this actually puts pressure on the government to try and tackle it, but how does it feel that they give zero flucks for us but up in arms to secure tourists. It's a good and a bad thing.

Oh they give zero fscks about the tourists either.. its just an opportunity for them to have a press conference with some catered chow and promise to do all sorts of things and then do nothing.

I think it's actually quite considerate of the US government to warn travelers about Numbi gate. Our government doesn't even warn us about Numbi gate.

Never fear though. The solution to all this is on the horizon:

South Africa is a dangerous country. All travelers need to know before they travel.

Will you get a traffic fine if you get hi-jacked when that was displayed?
