A top aide to Rep. Devin Nunes has been providing conservative politicians and journalists with information—and misinformation—about the anonymous whistleblower who triggered the biggest crisis of Donald Trump’s presidency, two knowledgeable sources tell The Daily Beast.

Derek Harvey, who works for Nunes, the ranking Republican on the House intelligence committee, has provided notes for House Republicans identifying the whistleblower’s name ahead of the high-profile depositions of Trump administration appointees and civil servants in the impeachment inquiry. The purpose of the notes, one source said, is to get the whistleblower’s name into the record of the proceedings, which committee chairman Adam Schiff has pledged to eventually release. In other words: it’s an attempt to out the anonymous official who helped trigger the impeachment inquiry.

On Saturday, The Washington Post reported that GOP lawmakers and staffers have “repeatedly” used a name purporting to be that of the whistleblower during the depositions. The paper named Harvey as driving lines of questioning Democrats saw as attempting to determine the political loyalties of witnesses before the inquiry. A former official told the Post that Harvey “was passing notes [to GOP lawmakers] the entire time” ex-NSC Russia staffer Fiona Hill was testifying.

“Exposing the identity of the whistleblower and attacking our client would do nothing to undercut the validity of the complaint’s allegations,” said Mark Zaid, one of the whistleblower’s attorneys. “What it would do, however, is put that individual and their family at risk of harm. Perhaps more important, it would deter future whistleblowers from coming forward in subsequent administrations, Democratic or Republican.” Zaid has represented The Daily Beast in freedom-of-information lawsuits against the federal government.

What a gorgeous dog. They are so amazing, and unbelievably smart. Been wishing for one as a running partner for a while now, but too afraid to make the leap.

They are incredibly high maintenance dogs.

Republicans mobilised to undercut Vindman's credibility, questioning his loyalty by noting he immigrated to the United States from the Soviet Union at the age of three, and suggesting he is part of an effort by the US national security bureaucracy to undermine Trump.
Isn't Trumps wife a more recent immigrant?

These Republicans have no integrity. It is, as somebody wrote on Twitter, like a concerned citizen phoning 911 to report a fire. Everyone can see the fire but instead of sending over the fire brigade to put it out, the Republicans want the person who reported the fire to be investigated.

His father moved them to the States in ‘79, Melanie moved to NY in ‘96... He’s younger than she is.

Also, the immigrant there on an Einstein visa has no degree while Vindman does.

Also, Melanie modeled until she found a rich husband, Vindman has spent two decades in the US armed forces and is a lieutenant colonel.

In other words it's just silly.

They should just released the unredacted transcript / call as Trump promised. Will settle this thing one time. And since it will prove him innocent , the republicans should fight hard to get it released.

Remimds me of the FISA request, for some reason. Can't think why

Sondland Testified Trump Pressure On Ukraine Was Quid Pro Quo, His Lawyer Tells WSJ

Ambassador to the EU Gordon Sondland believed the White House meeting sought by Ukrainian President Zelensky depended on an agreement to open a Biden probe, according to his attorney

Asked by a House committee lawmaker as part of the ongoing impeachment probe if the arrangement was a quid pro quo, Sondland responded that he wasn’t a lawyer but believed the answer was yes, his attorney Robert Luskin told the newspaper.

Sondland also told House committees that the president had told him: “There’s no quid pro quo — but Zelensky’s got to get out there and do the right thing,” his lawyer told the Journal.

So he's changed his story since his own deposition? Guess he doesn't want to go to jail for perjury to protect Trump.

Nunes Aide Is Leaking the Ukraine Whistleblower’s Name, Sources Say

For all the hand wringing and pearl clutching about Democrats leaking.

It's bad faith all the way down.

First it's too secretive, then it's trial by media and too public. First they whine that there are no votes, then when procedural votes are scheduled, it's a sham process.

Bad. faith. all. the. way. down.

Of course xenophobia is their go-to tactic, because they can't address any of the substance. Curious that they effortlessly deploy 'dual loyalty' tropes but accuse anyone that questions Israeli policy of anti-Semitism.

It’s disgusting. They bellyache about the process but they aren’t even invested enough to sit in on the hearings they claim are too secretive when they have a right to be there.

Lock him up, lock the whole f’n lot up

A real mystery.

Can file it with Trump's taxes, too.

Lindsey Graham keeps saying that the transcript shows that there was no quid pro quo, but how can he make such a ridiculous claim considering that the full transcript hasn't actually been released?
