One of my favourite nuggets of the Nazis, in terms of "thinking they were right", was they so deeply believed the BS propaganda that they spun about the Slav people they thought the war in Russia would be a easier walk over than the Battle of France and it would be over in a few weeks.

As history shows, the Russians eventually wiped the floor with the Nazis.

Some of the best letters written by Nazi soldiers were the ones where they expressed shock, surprise and utter confusion as to why they were losing. They could not understand it and wrote stuff like "we were told they were animals and this would be easy, but why are we retreating".

A good lesson in the foils of propaganda.
