Nobody suggested that the jobs should be middle class wage - but a minimum wage should at least be liveable, no? Otherwise you're excluding anyone who needs to survive from that kind of job, which makes it rather churlish to complain when people don't line up for slave wages.
The funniest story I heard today was that Michelle Obama claims to be oppressed. Funky Monkey how did that happen...
How did that happen? Simple. Some racist made up a story about it.The funniest story I heard today was that Michelle Obama claims to be oppressed. ... how did that happen...
Low-income Americans might also hold off on seeking work because of stimulus's disincentive effects, the bank added. The Biden administration's $1.9 trillion support package included a $300-per-week expansion to unemployment insurance through September. While smaller than the CARES Act benefit, the latest boost could be leading some Americans to stay on the sidelines for now, Bank of America said.
"Our estimates suggest that those who previously made less than $32,000 would be better off in the near term to collect UI benefits than work," the team added.
Still, Bank of America expects those 2.5 million Americans will rejoin the workforce by the fall as vaccination continues and the stimulus benefit fades. The remaining 2.1 million will take much longer to join the job market, or may not rejoin at all.
You really think it's right to be 30 and flipping burgers? Lordy, such ambition.![]()
Stimulus and COVID fears are keeping millions of Americans from rejoining the labor market, BofA says
Key paragraph here (note: median salary in the US in 2019 was $40 000).
Why should they go back to work? You already said those jobs aren't suitable for anyone over 30 and nobody deserves to earn a living wage if they're doing low skilled work.
Because it's good to be busy and actually be productive instead of being passive and consuming Netflix/Amazon Prime/social media all day. Is it really good from a mental health perspective to be regarded as surplus to requirement? You know there is something called self-respect...
Again, a living wage (you sound like a COSATU trade union member BTW) is a nebulous concept, ESPECIALLY in the States with vast differences in living costs across the states. Should someone be paid more if they have a family vs. a singleton even if they are in the same role? What does a "living wage" even mean in reality? I'm pretty sure one can 'survive' on a minimum wage in the US - of course, life will be hard in such circumstances but hopefully, that is used as motivation to get out of the current predicament.
Well done, you finally got to self respect.Because it's good to be busy and actually be productive instead of being passive and consuming Netflix/Amazon Prime/social media all day. Is it really good from a mental health perspective to be regarded as surplus to requirement? You know there is something called self-respect...

So, is Liz Cheney gone now? I seem out of the loop here and can't find much except they were supposed to vote and voted. Maybe results are awaited now so I will wait a bit.Every time anyone here talks about the “radical left” again, I’mma reply with Ted’s tweet and Liz’s speech to embarrass them.
Proceed accordingly.
Not yet the vote is later today. Seems like a done deal though. It's a real 'crossing the sanity rubicon' moment for the GOP.So, is Liz Cheney gone now? I seem out of the loop here and can't find much except they were supposed to vote and voted. Maybe results are awaited now so I will wait a bit.
