I remember in high school in Texas the KKK used to distribute flyers quite openly. They tried to recruit me once on the street (after first ascertaining that I wasn’t Jewish, of course).

Ok, let's think about this. Even though it is Florida, we can safely assume that the students who go there are overwhelmingly Democratic based on historical voting data. Does it make any sense at all to even try to recruit at a university?
