Matthew Thomas Crooks would have been 17 at the time.

Yeah, was being reported as such at the time. Takes a while for stuff to filter out I guess, though I doubt it will completely.

Apparently there were / are also two dudes who has his name, kinda look like him and who thought it was their time to shine online. Until it became obvious they're going to experience a FAFO moment.

All these demoncrats and their false platitudes and 'thoughts and prayers' :ROFL: I don't see the issue here tbh. Secret Service protection would only be removed for convicted felons with a prison term of at least 1 year because that responsibility would then fall on the prison/prison guards...

He registered as a Republican on the 28th of September 2021. 8 days after his 18th birthday.

The primaries where Nikki Hayley was a candidate were held this year. 2024.

The guy who donated is named Thomas Crooks, not Thomas Matthew Crooks

On the day of the donation, Thomas Matthew Crooks was 17 years and 4 months old.

You can't donate if you're under 18.

Apparently this is not true.

They changed the rules after the Supreme Court ruled that prohibiting minors from donating to political candidates and committees is unconstitutional.

The Federal Election Commission is amending its rules regarding contributions and donations by individuals aged 17 years or younger (“Minors”). These final rules conform to the decision of the United States Supreme Court in McConnell v. Federal Election Commission. In McConnell, the Supreme Court held unconstitutional section 318 of the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act of 2002, which prohibited Minors from contributing to candidates and from contributing or donating to political party committees. Accordingly, this final rule amends the Commission's regulations to reflect the Supreme Court's decision by removing the regulatory prohibitions on contributions by Minors to candidates, and on contributions and donations by Minors to political party committees.

Effective Date: The effective date for the revisions to 11 CFR part 110 is March 7, 2005.
