US power grid added battery equivalent of 20 nuclear reactors in past four years

The typical ice storm ... and associated power outage in the USA can last up to three days....
Let's see.... that's about 69 hours longer than what the batteries last.
And yes... I have been caught on one of those ice storms myself.

Being hit in a storm and losing power generation = 100% loss, so if the batteries can remain up during that it could help.It all depends on the setup really.

If they can keep up critical infrastructure then it will already be much better.

I've heard it's all the rage, plus people need to adjust their peaks to accommodate power generation, don't work 9 to 5, you must be home.
Will have 2 EV's so will do what I want when I ****ing want. Remember, I'm not normal.

House connection can only handle 11kW anyway without selling a kidney to upgrade the power.

Imagine being paid to assist the grid when it needs power and getting paid to absorb the grid when there is too much power.

Win win.

They pay you to charge your car lol!

Paid to shutdown as well

fml the comments are retarded, like a blind kid arguing he can see for 1 day, cut your nose to spite your face.

Nuclear is always the answer, heck the universe uses it so.... Batteries help the loads here and there when needed, they are not a substitute for power like a home solar system.

Would you rather have no batteries?

30GW of battery capacity powers 1,000,000 homes for 24 hours using 30kw per day, per home. And that is if none of the batteries are being recharged, just flattened.

Just corrected you a bit there.

We are forgetting about the incoming tsunami of batteries on wheels about to flood the market in the next 10 years though.

Too much red tape with nuclear ($$$$$) and that is not changing anytime so lets just do better with this smart grid thing.

99% of batteries can get recycled.

What does that have to do with the price of eggs?

I was saying there is going to a mountain of batteries parked everywhere that can also power the grid.
When they're charged, batteries are really good at storing energy, not so good at creating it though, so you need a method of creation as well, but you'd need to build more of it, just in case there are slow days.

Yes, we can create it during the day from the nuclear power station in the sky.
