Lol, space is quite a big place. The USA might need to start expanding its military budget even more. I believe that North Korea has its eyes on Alpha Centauri as a strategic launching position.

So the US has effectively extended its territorial control to the whole of space? Surprised there's not more protest about this.

But it will be soon. What happens when the US decides it needs to protect US companies commercial interests and that only US satellites should carry intl internet traffic etc.

Actually there is a treaty that forbids the US and Russia from putting nuclear weapons into space ... anti ballistic missile weaponry like killer sattelites and lasers are exempt from this.

It makes a lot of sense really ... put up orbiting missile launch platforms over the enemy country and then no need for missile silo's on the ground and waiting those 20 minutes for a missile to reach it's target.

Just drop the stuff right on their heads from space.

True but Russia have already put nuclear reactors on some of their sats for power generation I think. And if you can do something covertly enough then you can do whatever you want. :D

If they are starting the 'space police', I will be more than willing to switch to the USA. Imagine - My space shuttle with a flashing blue light. Now, how are we going to work the siren?

I think when Bush's term ends in 825 days they should strap him to a rocket, give him a M16 and send him off to personally protect America's interests in space.

Why wait the 825 days, send him now to colonise the moon and test the effects of living there without a space suit. It can be his legacy. ;)

Americans are patriots. Good patriots should stay in their country and leave the rest of the world alone!

Yet when there is a major problem in Sudan or wherever everyone expects the US to intervene. So you can't have it both ways.

Excuse me? *Who* expects it?

Name me one country where US intervention has improved matters for anyone but the US. They've been stuffing up since 'Nam.

i think some of you have forgotten why america is the wealthiest country in the world......every country on the planet funds their credit. everytime a central bank buy dollars on the open market they are essentially giving money to america to build/buy/finance anything they want.

if they were to piss enough countries off, we would not buy their dollars and effectively bankrupt the country. this has already started. major nations are diversifying their reserves....not just buy dollars, most of europe is now by euro's with a small portion of dollars.

the americans are ***ing themselves...there was an internet article that recently mentioned this....china could effectively bankrupt america if they sold their dollar reserves.....by selling the dollar reserves america has to effectively pay you back as it is a credit lending facility when you purchase any foreign currency. why do you think the dollar has weekened to the euro.....major countries are striking a balance now....america is no longer the god of the world economy.....thats where china and india are going to fit in along with the european union
