My friend (who is not a forumite) has lost his usb cable and now wants to call sentech and moan abt the crap speeds (about time too) but he doesn't know which tower he connects to. From previous experiences with the helpdesk I know they will want this info along with urine samples etc. Is there any way to find out what tower he connects to while he is on the ethernet cable? I know he lives in Constantia Kloof but I'm sure there is more than one tower he can connect to from there.

To be honest no, as the ethenet cable uses ppoe and will not report this info back to him.

You can plug the Ethernet cable directly into a PC's lan port, then install the supplied software selecting the Ethernet interface option. Once loaded, the supplied dialler will supply all the normal information, such as tower number, signal strength, RSCP and ISCP values.

yep... what JAS said. if you plug it directly into the network card, then you run the normal dial-up software and it works egg-zachary the same as the USB setup.

Sorry but i have to say this..... why the F@CK should we be doing all the damn techie support as users to supply them with the info

Personally..... would phone them and say you dont give a **** about what tower etc you are connected too.... They can figure it out..... NOT YOUR PROBLEM.... The network traffic is slow and i want a F*cking ticket now!!!!

Would love telkom to phone me and ask me where the routing of the cable goes to after it leaves my premises!!!!

Actually, if he uses the windows software that comes with the modem it WILL show him the tower information.

Only under linux with PPPoE does it not work ... (or if you don't use Sentech's dialler)
