Hi there

This is a strnge request. I have an older p4 laptop that has the following problem with sound. Recording (mic) works when one uses the build in microphone. Whne one uses the jack it does not. I have tries all software settings and had an the supplier look at the machine. The machine was eventually replaced, I managed to keep the old machine though. Its works perfectly expect for this problem.

I have wanted to use a usb dock to see if that solves the problem. So I am looking for the most cost effective usb dock/expansion device that will allow me to use the usb port to provision a sound input and output.

Any one have any idea of whereI might find the cheapest option and whethert or not this would work as a possible solution. I do need to have the sound recording for a telephone recording system that we are using.

You could get an external usb sound card. This should do the trick.

Edit: or a few bucks cheaper :)

Ok that one option, I did not think of a dedicated external sound card.

I will get more use out of a docking station type of solution. Anyone got an older usb 1.1 one in stock that is not moving? the machine is 1.1.

How about testing it with one of those USB headsets they used to give away with the PS2 games like SOCOM? I use one for skype.
