Hi All

Does anyone have recommendations on which non/neotel modem will connect to the Neotel network?

As far as I know it has to be a CDMA modem.

Thanks

Would also like to know this.
I have a multi-network/unlocked Huawei E367 usb modem.
I've been using it for Vodacom, Cell C, MTN and Afrihost.

BTW, where can I buy a Neotel sim card?

Neotel uses CDMA2000 (not sure if they support EVDO), which is a different from the GSM/3G technology used by the other networks. The Neotel modems are pre-configured to work on only the Neotel network. In short - You can only get the CDMA2000 modems configured for Neotel from Neotel.

Neotel also provides LTE in some areas. This may work with standard 1800MHz LTE modems - maybe a Neotel LTE customer can confirm.

Just a quick explanation...The older Neotel modems that did not require a SIM (or RUIM in CDMA speak) card, is Neotel pre-configured devices - probably using MAC authentication. The latest CDMA devices does use a SIM, thus you can use any device that is CDMA EVDO RevA compatible. Obviously, the router/PC etc that you connect the USB stick to must have the drivers to support this modems. The Neotel USB "stick" has the drivers/software built-in, and will install them as soon as you connect it to a PC.

Another question for the neotel fundis. I have a modem with a RUIM and a 15GB per month data bundle. I want to order another RUIM with 15GB data on the month to month option. Neotel says it is impossible since they can only allow one ruim per modem.

Is this true?

They advised me to buy a prepaid RUIM and load prepaid data (which of course is more expensive) and use it when my data bundle is depleted. This advice made me even more suspicious of the fact that they are not allowed to register 2 RUIMs on one device...

I'm of the opinion that the RUIM is not "locked or linked" to a device. Just like on a cell phone. (assuming cellphone is not network locked, which is not allowed in SA anymore). But as you say, you still need to convince the salesperson to sell you another RUIM without the modem. (R149 for 15G AFAIK). The modem is optional. If you have the older type CDMA flex modem that uses no RUIM, you can use the new 15G package per month to that too..
