Hi - Hope someone can help.
I just got my fibre line from Vodacom. With it I got the Huawei HG659 router.

I also have an ASUS DSL-AC68U router, which I prefer to use instead due to its excellent Wi-Fi range.

As I cannot log into the Vodacom logged Huawei HG659 router, I am unable to copy the settings. I guess I will need some sort of PPPOE username and password to enable me to connect to the Vodacom Network.
If so, how can I obtain this?

Does anyone have some advice on how to set it up?

Thank you,
R

Apparently you need to email their tech support and ask them to change the settings for you (even for things like the SSID). There was someone else not to long ago that also made a post here about not being able to change settings if you have Vodacom fibre. So yeah, guys you guys will be out of luck to use your own devices / change settings without their assistance.

Thank you for the comments.
Was hoping for a different outcome, but that sounds like Vodacom - trying to lock everything down and only realizing their mistake years down the line.

Why on earth would they not allow you to use your own router?

This also means that if you need to change your SSID, or do something as simple as port forwarding you have to email them, and get ready to wait a day or 5 to get things done.

I see customers going with different providers for this reason, if they have the option.

I'm now sitting in the same boat, have someone figured something out here yet?

I need to add our work IP Cameras, but with zero router login details available, it's impossible :(

Hi

This might help you. What I did was , i added a lan cable from the vodacom router lan port to the internet port on my own fibre router.

I logged into my own router and using the wizard I set it up as a dynamic ip router.

So my own router now . Feed the on vodarouter connectivity. I'm able to connect to my own router wifi and get high speed internet and channel applications on my router to do whatever I want.

Did you try asking vodacom if they would give you the pppoe username and password to use on your own router?
