I have a desire-s and want to use it as my modem, I know this works with Vodacom but when I called 8ta yesterday the guy said "no this is data" I wanted to hit him with a shovel - Do they work in phones or do you need a 3g modem

You can use it as a wireless hotspot, I don't see a problem with that?

Just to satisfy myself, I put my 8ta SIM in my HTC Desire HD, set it up as a wireless hotspot and am now typing this on my laptop :D

EDIT: just remember to switch to network 65502.

ROFL! It's for a internet.

Telkom demonstrating their vast technological knowledge once again. You should have asked him what "a internet" looks like, so you can recognise it when you see one in its natural habitat.

Careful.... with the 8ta data specials you must specify the 8ta network (non-roaming).

Thanks MickeyD! Reason why I ask is because sometimes I pick up "unprotected wireless networks"

DrewChan was inquiring about the R199 10Gb special, 8ta only gives non-roaming SIM cards for this type of contract.
