Can I use the Motorola V6 maxx as an HSDPA modem, thus plugging it into my computer when browsing (not so interested in using the phone itself to access internet) and further use it as a normal cellphone? And will I be able to do that with a normal Weekender contract package, for example, and then getting a bolt-on 500 meg data package?

I've received conflicting answers from the cresta vodashop and from another vodashop at vodaworld, the one saying I can do it, the other saying that when using the phone as a modem the speed will only be normal 3g (not HSDPA), and further that if I use the phone as a modem, I will not be able to receive calls at all (even when not online).

Any help appreciated - vodacom itself does not seem too sure of the answer.

its bullcrap, U can use the phone as a modem (basically irc, email and surfing on your home pc)

Depending on what the signal quality u get and if you are in a 3g/HSDPA area u will get those speeds (it depends on tower and signal strength/quality)

On my motorola v600 when i recieve a call my internet basically laggs like hell, and even timeouts. But once the call is finished my internet resumes as per normal. But i think it was due to the phone being a little slow, i know the Nokia n70 doesn't disconnect u, and the Motola v3x also doesn't. U can surf and chat on the phone at the same time.

sfd, depending on what u want to use your internet for, 3G(384K) speeds are fine for gaming and surfing. Sure HSDPA is faster... much faster but i doubt u'll want to use that with a 500mb bundle :>>>
