Using IS News Server - Noob question

I tried a download from the IS News server using grabit. I got part 24, 27, 36 and 47 rar files as "incomplete grab" (even though the full file size was downloaded). SFV Checker give an error on parts 21, 24, 27, 28, 36, 47, 55, 61, 66 and 68. Winrar gives CRC errors on parts 21, 24, 27 and 28.

Please could you inform me as to the suggested course of action from here?

Grab the parity files (*.PAR or *.PAR2) and use them to fix the corrupt/incomplete files.
I user par2 to do this on Linux but I'm sure there are tools that can do it on Windows.
Doesn't Grabit automatically handle par files for you?

The other alternative is to download the bad parts again.

Download the .par files and use Quickpar to repair the files. This will only work if there are enough par files.

Yeah, use QuickPar with your par2 files and it could fix your problem.

Nah - overkill IMHO.

I always download the single par2 file but there's no need to download the rest until you know you're going to need them. On 350mb file they can add up to over 40mb just for the par files.

Course some of the newsreaders will do this for you - but mine doesnt.

Same here - I just grab a single par file or a few of them depending on how many recovery blocks I need.
What news client are you using?

I think bwana uses unison and I use GrabIt. What I do is make a separate dummy news with 0 connections and set my par files to download from that server. Them if I need them I download, after the whole things finished and if I don't, I delete them :D

I've moved most of the downloading to an old headless powerbook so I use unison.

Solid approach - what I do is select the rar files I want, generate the nzb hit inverse on the site so that the par files are selected and download a new nzb incase I need it later. Then I just download enough par files to compensate for the missing ones.

It's an extra step in the beginning but unison only allows for one server at a time.

;)
