Hi - does anyone know if one can use the B315 LTE router from Telkom for Telkom Fibre (on OpenServe) since it has a WAN port?

Not sure if it will work - does anyone know?

I speak under correction here but I think you can but don't accept my word as gospel. In order to get this to work you need to establish a PPPoE connection.

Check your ethernet/wan configuration options on the B315 and see what it offers and maybe post screenots of all the config options available to you and I'll compare that to what's configured on my zyxel ;)

Here's some screenshots - what do you think, would it work?

Has both PPPOE and DHCP so there's no reason it won't work.

Seems to have everything you need so it should be ok using the pppoe + dynamic ip option, just enter your username & password.

Thanks - now just waiting for the installation. Hopefully this week (booked for Friday)...

So, quick update on this should anyone be keen to know. I had to (re)order my fibre 3 times as the 1st two times the address kept saying no Fibre infrastructure. Our complex had Fibre live, but the map was not updated. Long story short, they installed and I used the login details on the LTE router and at first it did not work. I then removed the sim card (kept it out and just stuck it to the back of the router with tape - not to loose it) and then rebooted the LTE router and it came back on, on the PPPoE setting, and its working perfectly!

So, if you have an existing B315 LTE router from Telkom and you are upgrading to Fibre on OpenServe keep the router, it will keep working if you plug the ethernet cable coming from the Fibre box into the WAN port at the back of the B315 LTE router (provided you've taken the sim out) and you use PPPoE with your Fibre ISP details.

There should be an option somewhere to make the lte the secondary connection I think so if the fibre link dies it can failover to the lte. I'm making some assumptions here though based on how my zyxel works.

Anyway enjoy your fibre ;)

@DemonSplicer I've done all the tests now, and this is what I get.

First setup LTE Router to connect to Mobile network with the APN you want, when you can ping the internet, step 2 would be to configure the EWAN.

Plug in the cable to your Fibre Router/ONT to connector "LAN4/WAN" on LTE Router.

Browse on router to "Settings", "Ethernet" and "Ethernet Settings".

Select PPPoE from the list and enter the details from your Fibre ISP. Then Apply. You wil see if you click on "Home" the network icon would be visible (and not the Signal Strenth anymore).

Do a SpeedTest, then you'll see your fibre Service provider name.

To test if the failover work, do a continious ping to say 8.8.8.8, then unplug the cable to your Fibre Router, and you would see the ping drop, and in a couple of seconds it would start pinging again.

If you have your Router's "Home" open, you will see the network icon is swopped with Signal Strenth.

Do a SpeedTest, and you would see the Mobile network name, then plug in the Cable to LTE router again, and in a couple of seconds, it would ping via Fibre again and Speedtest would show you that it work.

There is no "tick" to enable failover, and then the thing that irretate me the most, it only detect the connection with the ON state of the Ethenet Interface, so if a PPPoE username fail, or the Fibre drop, the Eth3 interface would still show as on, and the router will route traffic to the "broken" route.

It doesn't do a route test to see if the internet connection disappear, and then switch to LTE.

For it to work you need to unplug/switch off Fibre Router.

Hope it clears things up for you.

If you want this automatic switching, invest in a dual network card PC with pfSense or a propper Router that has the better features.

Great, thanks so much - will give it a try!
