Water levels for the dam was at 42.2% last week and is now at approximately 39%, meaning more than 1% of water is being lost a week.

Ratau said even though Gauteng has been experiencing consistent rain for a week, the water that is captured in the province flows west, towards Hartbeespoort in the North West while the integrated Vaal River System is supplied with water from the Free State, Mpumalanga, North West, Northern Cape and from the Lesotho Highlands Project.

With the Katse dam below 20% (about 40% of Gauteng’s water flows through the Katse Dam) I wonder if It is still generating electricity or are they relying on SA for electricity? It looks like most of the recent rain did not fall in the Vaal and Katse catchment areas.

A 50% Vaal dam seems optimistic if there is not much more rain in the Vaal and Katse catchment areas.

Sterkfontein is above 90%. We are good for a couple of years with no rain.

Useless fear mongering article

The water from katze was switched on on 1 December and has only just reached the dam.
The water from the rain is still on its way.

I read an article yesterday that said the Vaal gets most of its water from rains in the Free State while rain that falls in Gauteng tends to flow to Hartbeespoort Dam.
