In Indonesia? Indonesians are one of the most relaxed with time nations on the planet. They make African time look like German punctuality in comparison. I've never been to a meeting that started on time or transportation that left on time there. They had that saying "Jam-karet", which meant something like "time is flexible", that they would constantly use for everything. If you had a meeting scheduled to start at 9:00 you were lucky if it actually started at 9:30 as it would more than likely start at 10:00 with the excuse being "Jam-karet" which used to annoy the hell out of me each time.

Stop making assumptions.

American company. Not Indonesian. American rules. You can be fired for irritating the boss. And the only legal recourse in your contract is in the courts of the State of Texas. Not surprised they brought in foreign contractors instead of using local Indonesian labour and paid the foreign contractors excellent wages.

Same reason the British brought in Indian and Chinese contract labour to South Africa in preference to local labour - Work ethic.

Let's enjoy it together, you are still here in SA right?

Only because the ANC trashed the currency so badly that I can't emigrate. I should have done that when I had the chance instead of being an optimist thinking SA might succeed.

I should be particularly heartbroken that you decided not to employ people anymore.

They're the heartbroken unemployed now. Caused by attitudes like yours.

Try and look at things from an employers point of view for a change.

Africa is a continent of consumers, not producers.

When you see that in order to produce, you need to obtain permission from men who produce nothing–when you see that money is flowing to those who deal, not in goods, but in favors–when you see that men get richer by graft and by pull than by work, and your laws don’t protect you against them, but protect them against you–when you see corruption being rewarded and honesty becoming a self-sacrifice–you may know that your society is doomed. - Ayn Rand. Hell no, why? Maybe the incompetent manager who wastes the employer's money on spite driven cases that are not sound on merit is the one who should go?

Why not? It was your suggestion to just go to another coffee shop if the employees there are goofing off. Take your own advice for a change.

Of course, we can all be employed if everyone is paid R1500 a month.

Or we could have an economy where the average annual Income per Capita is US$ 40 000 with a labour shortage like the UK if we sorted out our labour laws.

Where did I make an assumption? You said "in Indonesia" and I queried it as I know that Indonesians have a completely different concept of time.

Exactly. SA has the most sheltered and protected labour I have seen anywhere. And they think this is the norm in the rest of the world.

We once had a guy who was late for the company bus transport from the hotel to the work site in Indonesia. The supervisor stopped the bus from leaving and warned him in front of us all and warned us when he got on board; -

"Listen up, all of you. You only get to be late twice when you work here. The second time you will collect your pay and be on a flight to your home country. Do I make myself clear?"
I don't see American company mentioned anywhere in that

Oh, I see, I need to give the name and address of the company I worked for to satisfy you and to make my comment valid? Should I paste a copy of the contract on here too?

Do you have any other onerous requirements for my participation on this forum that others do not seem to have?

Don't worry about that one, I believe you on this one. I have a friend working for an American company in Indonesia, he once told me the same thing happened to him.

Absolutely no need to post a copy of the contract.

I am sure the NPA will charge the individuals in question with malicious damage to property.

Just remember that revolutionaries need an enemy, without one they are just the abyss that has been starting back all this time..
These students are not revolutionaries though. They're entitled brats. Nothing more.

The students have already been arrested so of course they'll be charged with malicious damage to property at a minimum. The NPA haven't actually charged the US student yet, they have sent the case for investigation and are yet to decide. It was malicious of them to announce intention before the investigations were completed.
