Seems Val de Vie not rich enough to afford a tesla solar roof.
Looks like a normal roof so does not affect the "looks"

Do you even get those locally? It would be expensive to import I imagine if there's no existing supply channel. And not to mention the disruption and installation costs for redoing all the roofs in the estate.

As pointed out by @RonSwanson
Marley also makes a solar roof tile.

I'm sure billing is already centralised.... All of these estates and even blocks of flats are done by 3rd parties.

The reason it's not on the roofs is because the estate doesn't own the roofs! The individual owners do!
Why are you shouting?

4) To bolster the money coffers of estate management.
Really have to love the cynicism in this thread...if it isn't ESKOM that is filling their coffers with someone's hard earned money then it must surely be someone else...on yes let's see...estate management. I mean at the end of the day the estate management is not paying anything for the system, right, the supplier is giving it away, right? :cautious:

I mean how far away from reality do you have to be to have a thought process like this? Is it the same when you go to Spar and buy some food...filling the coffers of Spar management with your hard earned money?

What about you taking advantage of people in the job that you do...taking their hard earned money away from them? You should work for free and everyone should give you free things too. That would be perfect for you, right?

Not sure, but is this an existing estate or a new estate?
If existing state, then a central PV+Battery will be simpler & cheaper.

IMHO, any new ZA home should have PV, inverter and battery - should be part of the building code.
It's existing, at least most of it

Its true I am overly angry at anyone forcing people to not take care of themselves like they want to. Estate management is not evil like the ANC, but they also want to restrict your freedom and finances by forcing you to only do it their set way. Val de Vie is bad example because its full of rich nutters who are willing to pay a premium for something that supposedly does not look great on a house roof.

You are so right! The more affluent communities will all start doing this and show gavamunt and eishkom the finga - who gonna fund da taxes now mahn!
1. I don't think anyone here realises just how much power ESKOM generates
2. Until solar+wind+etc. has a material impact will take quite some time
3. Anyone saying oh batteries...remember there are industries that have a constant demand of at least 10MW and above...that's 240MWh in a 24 hour period...A battery at that scale would cost assuming $500/kWh --> $120,000,000.. or +-R2,000,000,000.00 so no...they will still use ESKOM and pay ESKOM for this electricity very gladly
4. The few people who aren't paying are a drop in the bucket from both a electricity consumption and a lost revenue point of view. If you don't believe me please check out ESKOM's annual reports and see how much money they make with industry and everyone else
5. The cost of electricity is not taxes to the government. ESKOM has suppliers, costs, labour, maintenance, parts, etc. and this is where the money goes

Live and let live. If you don't want to live there and if you don't want to abide by the estate rules then you're free to live somewhere else. Why does it bother you what others choose to do with their money? Complaining of the 'rich nutters' as you call them just smells of envy on your part

Nope no envy from me. They are mad because they want to pay a premium for something that is not a problem. I can live and let live, but their madness will make other estates think this is the way to go. All organizations wanting and forcing people to do solar their way must just fvck off and die in a hole. Die socialist scum!

This is how things will go. As infrastructure starts to crumble, we'll have more and more large estates and residential associations providing for themselves. It probably wont stop at just power, given some time they'll have their own water treatment/filtering plants because the municipal water won't be good enough.

Plus schools, doctors, hospitals etc

I think we're in for a fun ride. The upper middle and well off of will either emigrate or go solar. These kind of communities will generate their own power and Eskom will be left with the people that can't pay to carry them...

My fellow South Africans, your El Presidente has spoken ...
