Van Velden Hospital was sanitised on Thursday after one of its nurses tested positive for Covid-19 on Monday, 1 June in Tzaneen.

“The department confirms that a nurse at Van Velden has tested positive privately and she is currently in isolation. The people she came in contact with were traced and tested and they are awaiting the results,” Neil Shikwambana, Limpopo’s department of health spokesperson.

“The hospital is disinfected on a daily basis in line with infection control standards applied in all facilities, we call on community members to remain calm and not act in a manner that would stigmatise the person as it will make the fight against Covid-19 difficult,” said Shikwambana.

He said the hospital has not been shut down despite calls from certain stakeholders for the Limpopo government to do so.
Limpopo now has a total of 198 cases with 145 recoveries and 50 active cases.
