Hi,
Started to experience slow responses on my 20mb VDSL line - and when I checked my synced speed - I'm currently syncing at 12800 downstream | 1024 upstream.
Assuming there was a fault on the line, I logged a fault with Afrihost (They manage my line too) ... after them logging a fault with Telkom - a technician eventually arrived - found no faults.
Took it up with Afrihost - support then came back to me to say Telkom has implemented a system called Dynamic Spectrum - which dynamically analyses the line every 96 hours and tries to set the line on the best speed it *thinks* is best given the distance of 1.25KM from the exchange and the line attenuation (6dB) and Sound To Noise Ratio (24.4 dB).
1. Anyone aware of this system?
2. I never had any problem with my sync speed or errors on the line before this - so I'm going out on a limb to say their calculations are flawed - given the fact I never had a problem syncing at 20mb.
3. If this is true - how many people are now paying for line speeds they not even closely getting?
