VDSL vs ADSL difference in setup DSL2750

So I wanted to replace a Mweb modem with a Dlink DSL2750 this morning (latest xDSL one). The guy thought he had VDSL, but according to Mweb callcentre it's a normal 40mbps ADSL line (I thought ADSL is 10mb, and VDSL is 20/40 - please correct me if I'm wrong?).

It's not syncing at all - are there any settings that needs changing if the line is a VDSL line? And if it's a 40mb ADSL line, will it work with the DSL2750?

The guy lost his password for the Mweb modem so can't login to check current settings, and the callcentre seems to think the DSL2750 should work out of the box.

Can the 2750 do VDSL? I thought it's only ADSL and ADSL+. ADSL2+ is 20 mb/s.

It says xDSL on the box, so I assumed it can. If it can't then I'm the poephol

OK seems like I need the Dlink DSL-G225 for VDSL.

Mods please close thread and ban me for stupidity.

Can anyone confirm if you get 20 and 40mb in ADSL config, or are they VDSL only?

40 mb/s is beyond ADSL. VDSL's modulation scheme is different so you need a dinkum VDSL modem.

No need to lambaste self. Very understandable. ;)

Sorry another quick question before I waste my time again - do I need to change settings on the VDSL modem to tell it it's a VDSL line / account, as opposed to ADSL? Haven't worked with VDSL so not sure.

Hi
I have 4 VDSL lines of my own. There is a different set up required to work on the Telkom VDSL

1 - Router - D-Link DSL-224 works great
2 - Set up is almost the same - But use PTM instead of ATM - Also note you MUST use vlan 835 (802.1q) on the DSL interface
3 - Set up PPPoE connections as usual

* The router is set up auto-detect and choose the fastest mode - Set up router and VLAN first other it might report to something like 15Mbps under your line sync

Sorry for being brief - Limited time here
All 4 my lines sync either on 40mbps or 45mbps down / 3mbps up

I can post pictures later if needed

Thanks Tiny1, have read about the VLAN and 835, obviously couldn't find on the 2750. Waiting on the G225 and will check there.
