You're lucky then. People like me need meat to be healthy.

I said we don't need meat to SURVIVE, not necessarily be healthy.

It's easier to be healthy on meat, as meat is nutrient rich.

You actually could be healthy without meat but you would need to eat more and be sure you ate enough of the right foods to get all your nutritional needs met, but it is quite possible to do.

This life we live where we have a variety of meat easily available, every single day, is something new to our species, so you probably need less meat than you think.

Vegetarian diet associated with worse health.

I have to agree though. If I have to just eat plants I would get very depressed.
And depression is not healthy :D

Well, if they fail the mirror test too (given reasonable concessions like not being blind), they probably technically could be.

I expect that given the choice, most people (short of say Jeffery Dahmer), would just opt for the veggie burger.

It's not unhealthy. Even the study in the OP says so. Their tiny sample, and narrow group only possibly indicate some issue for a narrow genetic subset (they say this). Even then the lack of establishing causation (there are many reasons for correlation here, that aren't causal), and the fact that the vegetarian group isn't actually vegetarian, and the actual nutritional specifics of the diet aren't discussed, means that it is far more likely that the results are due to external causation and/or cultural factors (lack of vegetarian support in terms of stores, restaurants, doctors, etc. could easily lead to a chips and bread diet).

Pain and death are very different things. Right to not suffer and a right to life.
What were you were bringing up self-awareness for...was it in response to the keeping cats thing or to eating meat (from animals raised in appalling conditions)? I've got no issue or say on the keeping cats / raising cats thing - different discussion altogether. However, on the topic of pets and their owners I'll say this: People who have pets & love them and would go farking mad if someone were to hurt them - those people should be especially aware of the meat they eat and how those animals were raised.

If you love your dog whilst eating KFC there's a problem: Your sphere of compassion has too small a radius if you love one animal but knowingly support an industry known for it's harsh living conditions & the suffering it imposes on other animals.
