I sold 3 off road quad bikes in 2012 and 2011 and the new owner never registered it in his name(i know i should have given the nco in ,but the guy said he would and i trusted him  )
i have also lost his contact details and ID etc
I also dont have the vin numbers available ,only the license number (although its not registered as roadworthy)
I went to registration office and they informed me that i owed a lot of money on these vehicles , and after i told them my problem, they could not give me any concrete things to get it off my name except for try to locate buyer
Is there anything i can do to get it off my name and not to pay all the penalties???
How?
Any feedback will be appreciated

Wait... WHAT?

You registered and paid yearly fees for vehicles you can't legally ride on the road?
I smell a fish here somewhere

I didnt pay the fees, but today they pulled my account on the Natis system and each month is penalties on these quads for about R140 and it sits on over R8000
It states: license penalties , registration penalties , license arrears
I did not even know they were still on my name

Tell them to fark the hell off. Ask them how and why you would need to register and pay licensing fees on vehicles not permitted to travel on the roads. They taking a fat chance.

How?without the documentation or vin numbers?
and do i first have to pay outstanding balance for them?
The Natis will give you all the info you need. Go back to the Dept. you went to and ask for the procedure to scrap. You will still be liable for the fines though ( I assume ) but settle it and get done with this problem.

I would never in my life pay that.

These type of vehicles can't be registered as they are not road legal vehicles. I will make such a stink it's not even funny. OP try and speak to Shaun108. He works with licensing I think. Not 100% sure, he can advise you accordingly.

Is there an easy way to check online if vehicles are still registered on your name?

That's not true, I've had about 3 or 4 off road ktms and all were registered. I think they need to be for insurance or something. That doesn't mean they're road legal and they don't get a license number allocated to them, but you get to pay yearly license fees. (yeah a rip-off I know, but this is SA.)

Sadly no advice to OP, but in future always keep and hand in the yellow form (I think it was yellow) yourself!

I have had a KX250 in my name registered at the GPA but there was NEVER any fees payable apart from the admin fee to register it on my name.

There's no way of winning this battle unless you approach a lawyer and end up paying more at the end.

I too owned 2 off road vehicles which needed registration and yearly fees just like road vehicles. If you don't settle (or resolve) this now, that R8k will keep on climbing.

Good luck.
