rtv...any input from you yet???
The above firmware version is looking very good.
One thing I have noticed is that the Application
is at 5.0.1.60/A1 but the Bootloader is 4.2.1.8
(Can you confirm that too?)

1. Zero packet loss so far.
2. Improved ping times (max of 550 is now at 275ms)
3. Download speeds about 0.8 - 0.9kb/s faster.

I hear that all NodeB retrofits and
upgrades have been completed - country wide.
This is good news - Now if only the speed issue could be resolved for once and for all!!

I'm still on 4.2.1.8, and noticed today that packet loss went down to under 1%.
who knows how consistent it is, and how long until it nosedives again.

in reference to what is good news, good news would have been if things stayed the same, and packet loss didn't shoot up 4 weeks ago!!!!

Ok,

So, I'm a 128K user... this means that that I along with the rest of my bretheren(128/512) are now part of Sentech's "upgrade" bwhahahaa...

Speeds are truly fcksed at the moment ... but pings are looking better.

I've also done the upgrade to the latest firmware....

As I had been running the previous v5 firmware my bootloader is a tad newer - hope it's stable ;-)

Before Upgrade:
Bootloader: 5.0.1.40y
Application Version: 5.0.1.40y
Average pings 207.9 .. packet loss 0.00%

After upgrade:
Bootloader: 5.0.1.40y
Application Version: 5.0.1.60
Average pings 214.9 .. packet loss 0.00%

Will only be able to really test this once Sentech switch on the new bandwidth ... hope it happens soon.

BUT, if there is ANY other activity on the link (like to above download) packetloss climbs to close on 76%...

Have the 256K users come right this evening ?

I'm still running 5.0.1.40y - would be nice to try 5.0.1.60.

Hey Doomy, where you these days.
Download the new software here:
http://www.unreal.co.za/files/other/IPWP1C5.0.1.60.exe
Log off.
Doubleclick the exe and it will install itself where necessary.
Once that is done run up the original MW logon application.
Click on Tools.
Click on Upgrade Modem to Software Load 5.0.1.60

Thanks to those that tested this lot out.

Just one note ... It seems that the .60 version does NOT update the bootloader.... the bootloader revision stays 4.2.1.8

Pro - Could you get FastComm to look into this ... the .40y updated the bootloader ... to a .40 bootloader

Doomy

Yes you will need a Windows box and you must use the MySmokeSignal application from Slothtech.

I have installed .60 but am experiencing some packetloss which I didn't have before. My pings have actually gone down - got an average of 86ms for sentech - but its unstable. Should I go back to .40y?

Application : .60
Bootloader : .40y

Does sentech release official firmware updates? I have never been able to update through them. I am relying on ProAsm's distributions.

If 60 is not an improvement for you then go back to 4.2.1.8 unless 40y was ok for you as all NodeB's are now running version 5.

Firmware doesn't seem to be the problem. I have severe packetloss on tower 66 - fourways exchange. This has never happened until the last 3 weeks. I'm losing faith in 'upgrades'.

Hopes, dreams, prayer and new firmware will not improve packet loss if you have poor reception

why on cd? well IMO so that the "deadline" of fixes can be extended in order to stall more. Sentech will probably use it as an excuse to buy time. The "huge file" excuse is nonsense. A monkey would know that. 1.5MB on the intranet I mean come on.. every customer is probably downloading 1.5MB from external every 15 minutes on average.

Im just waiting for the announcement -> Sentech will be posting you the FIX on CD. So we say "but we already have the FIX and its still not working" with response "uh but its not the official version.."

Lotto numbers anyone?

ok .. so now what???

I can get usb connection straight. but no ethernet on linux?

does anyone know what went wrong cause the firmware is upgraded and i am talking to you on usb link now. but when i try ethernet it gives me some bull about pppd fatal error: died.

I reset. did what was needed, checked mysignal. etc... even reinstalled dsl drivers in linux.(SuSE 9.1 Pro) without hitch. modem gets Rx transmission from eth1, but no replies.
Linux side for me is not a problem. but maybe it has changed something in the firmware that is now confusing the dsl connection.

anyone?

You sound like a bit of an orc with that statement, for the last tim, NO, the reception is not the cause, my packetloss went right back up yesterday, with 1% signal I've seen no packet loss at times, and with 42% at the same times, I see the same results.
ABorg, on tower 66, they went better last week, since yesterday, they've dropped dismally.

DOOMY : just a hunch, but I suspect your problem is the pppoe, I've found that the modem doesn't accept the password set up in ppppoe connection, unless it has been stored in the modem previously, after everytime you reset the mode, you must plug in the USB cable, and dial through proasms mysig, or the sentech dialler with your username/pass. I'm assuming since you on ethernet know , when you flip back over, it will all be better. alternatively, reflash the modem with the firmware again, and try again,

Hi guys...

another question. how can i get my old bios back. :(
just so I can see if it bios related.

dorris. I am connected via the usb cable atm. I have the ethernet cable linked up to a large quad xeon in the server with cabling to there from the best antenae position we could find. so i may try to us pppoe on windows to see if it works.

ProASM. do you still keep the old bioses around somewhere. it would be nice to be able to go back to things if you "oops, I did it again" ;)

thanks.

Doomy
