Verizon will drop the Muslim cable channel Bridges TV on March 14, almost a year to the day after the channel's owner was sentenced to life in prison for beheading his wife, who was also the station's general manager.
The murder occurred at Bridges TV's studio in 2009, six days after Aasiya Hassan told her abusive husband Muzzammil she was divorcing him. Muzzammil Hassan, the channel's founder, then lured his wife to the studio where he stabbed her 40 times and hacked off her head with a pair of hunting knives.
Verizon's decision to drop the channel is unrelated to Hassan's crime. The company told Metro:
"This programming has been discontinued due to very low viewership and the continued effort of Verizon to offer our customers the most popular channels while keeping our rates reasonable."
Bridges TV news director and anchor Samantha Azzar told Metro:
"Without Verizon, we will cease to exist. We won't be able to stay on... There will be no voice for local Muslim Americans to cover stories that are important to them."
Bridges TV's advertisers included Ford and American Islamic College.
The Daily News once noted:
Muzzammil Hassan founded Bridge TV in 2004. The American-Islamic station was designed to combat the negative stereotype of Muslims post-9/11.

Yeah, let's combat negative stereotypes by abusing our wives and beheading them! :wtf:

He is not the first idiot to kill his wife when she declares that she is to divorce him! Some of the others have been Jewish, Christian and also Muslim, how many did it because of their beliefs and how many as a result of male inability to comprehend their wife leaving? Is it not time to be honest and to stop using instances like this to knock others belief systems?

Oh, we get it... so he was just an exception? And in no way typifies the behaviour of scores of others like him? And despite the fact that he was trying to change people's negative perceptions of Islam, we should just overlook his violent and reprehensible behaviour and conclude that his actions were just the product of a deranged mind and nothing to do with others of the same faith who treat their wives and daughters like crap and often kill them?

QED!!! Until it is just the members of this one faith that act in this way this type of criticism says more about the writer than the religion!!

Yeah, you keep telling yourself that... whatever makes you feel better and sleep at night while belonging to the "religion of peace"! :D

LOL I have no religion!

The idea of a good society is something you do not need a religion and eternal punishment to buttress; you need a religion if you are terrified of death.

Can't make this stuff up.

Hmm, interesting....
Most of their employees were not Muslim, the former employee said, and Muzzammil Hassan himself was not devout, neither praying nor fasting.[23][24] Out of deference to his Jewish friends, Hassan expressed aversion to producing shows about Palestine.[25] Nancy Sanders, the television station's news director for over two years, said "I just do not feel it was an honor killing. I think it was domestic abuse that got out of control."[9] No elaboration appears for domestic vioence that would not be considered out of control.

Makes the heading used for this thread by the OP seem rather like twisting the facts to suit ones POV:wtf:

Right, and the non-religious never do these kind of things either huh? ;)

I think that's the point - psychos will be psychos. We know that Islam oppresses women, but that doesn't mean that it is solely responsible for this incident. I can point you to Christian men who killed their wives in a gruesome manner but that doesn't mean that Christianity was responsible for the act.

You can't argue that beheading seems to be a particularly popular form of execution amongst these type of people! ;)

The author and publisher of the original appear to be as biased as others mentioned! Confirmation bias or just poor research?
