read the review: unimpressed...only EDGE,mp3 cannot be used as a ringtone, unimpressive internet browser (slow rendering etc),

Suppose its good for the yank who loves his ipod and carries it everywhere and doesnt want to carry an extra cellphone.

maybe a newer iphone will have a faster processor etc

Pathetic excuse for an ipod trying to be a phone. Very disappointing.

Two things in the conclusion stood out

It is expensive and it isn't perfect, but going back and forth between it and the Samsung Blackjack or the Blackberry Curve just highlights how much of an improvement in usability it is over the competition
Quite possibly the best thing about the iPhone is that it doesn't matter if you buy one or not, it's impact on the phone industry will be tremendous regardless
Love it or hate it everyone is going to have to up their game now.

I agree that the iPhone will definitely shake up the market. I think what everyone seems to forget, is the fact that the iPhone is Apple's first shot at a cellphone (AFAIK). Think back to the first Motorolas and Nokias ... not the best of phones by a long shot, compared to what we get now.

As a first pass I take my hat off to Apple, I think they did well ... the iPhone will grow into a phenomenal product in the next 18-24 months

EDIT: A nice link - iPhones flying off the shelves

I agree wholeheartedly. For a first iteration, it is revolutionary in some areas.

Hats off to Apple - they have the gumption to go ahead with a device like this, they will reap the rewards.

I don't understand why some people feel like they have to defend their phones and put down the iPhone - see it for what it is.

Nah, I'll keep my N95 and in the near future will add the E90 to my collection. The iPhone looks nice, but thats about it.

If I can get it for free, I'll take it.:p

You can't get it, irrespective of N95/E90 - I don't see what they have to do with it in the first place. The review is not about iPhone vs. anything (even though it was compared to the BlackJack and the BB), simply about the performance of a new product.

You said in another thread that you have an iPod. Why did you get it - there are other media players much, much better (when it comes to functionality/capacity/sound quality etc.) than the iPod. Still, you went with it (and so did I) because it is the best mix of all the functions, in the best packaging, with the best, easiest and most intuitive UI.

Apple are now trying to do the same in the mobile market. I applaud them for that, and I also wish to remind you that we're at Generation 5 iPod now - imagine how good the Iphone will get when it reaches that level.

In closing, maybe you don't like it, maybe you will still go with E90 (or whatever from Nokia) even when (if) Iphone is available here, that's absolutely fine and your reasons are also valid.

Doesn't make the iPhone any less revolutionary.

From what I have seen of the iPhone I like how it looks and I think the interface is a big step in the right direction. Of all the phones I have used in the past and currently Nokia has had the best interfaces, but even those are a PITA most the time.

True it is revolutionary. But wait for the other manufacturers to jump on the bandwagon, then Apple won't stand a chance.

I suppose you are making this claim based on the dismal failure of the ipod once the other manufacturers got on the 'bandwagon'?

Thats what many said about the iPod too.

Besides - with patents the way they are the other manufacturers are going to have to innovate not imitate and they havent been doing that very well considering the head start they had. ;)
