Guys, I need to know if some of you have the same problem..
I recently moved from Telkom adsl to the 100/100GB LTE package. After only a week and a half USAGE we suddenly had no more internet. Some investigation revealed we used all the data in this time! Now I am used to how much data we consume - mostly streaming video providers like Netflix and such, but the alarm bells were going off like crazy in my head and so I downloaded two different data usage apps to monitor my consumption.
Surprisingly we watched a documentary that logged +/- 190md for the 45 minutes duration on both apps.
However looking at my data usage on the Telkom app 800mb were gone!
We never had such heavy usage using adsl with Afrihost so something is fishy here..
How is it possible that both data usage apps log far less usage than Telkom.
I feel I am being robbed here! - and I think everybody need to check their usage with other software than the Telkom app.
Any comments are welcome thanks.

Remember that the faster your connection is the more bandwidth streaming applications will generally use which equates to more data being used.

For Youtube make sure to set you quality lower if you want to save data.

For Netflix go to your profile settings and playback settings and set your desired quality accordingly (https://www.netflix.com/HdToggle)

Now download something you know the size off. Windows 7 service pack 1 or an ISO or something. Then compare the differences.

800mb for 45 minutes is quite plausible. HD video is about 1gb per hour.

Thanks, the faster connection speed probably justifies the higher data usage, however both data monitoring apps had similar results. As mentioned lower, I will download a known size package and compare. Will respond with the results.

Unless you are using a gateway through which all traffic passes as the monitor it won’t ever be accurate.

The app just says "high quality", whether it is 1080p or not I would not notice on my tablet...
"High quality" means 1080p or ultra HD. Actual feed can be lower when:

a. Connection speed is not sufficient for "High quality" uninterrupted streaming
b. "High quality" content is not available for this title
c. Streaming app do not comply with copyright protection requirements (i.e. some Android boxes on Netflix)
