Will my VGA-only LCD monitor work with a GTX560ti graphics card and a VGA female to DVI male adapter?

Some say it will work fine and others say I need a digital to analog signal converter.

I once converted a cable (DIY style) from VGA cable to DVI... I don't see why a simple adapter would not work?

If you were trying to convert VGA to something like co-ax... Then yes i could see you needing some sort of converter as the signals are different... I am no expert but that is my 2c.

Any idea why my PC doesn't detect the monitor at all when I use the adapter to connect to the DVI-D port?

It works fine in the VGA port.

VGA is analog. DVI-D is digital.

Ah I see the problem here. DVI-D would need a signal converter while DVI-I would need just an adapter.

Thanks man.

I don't know if this is relevant to your question (I'm very tired), but this sounds like what I am doing:

Works fine, and it's also a 560 ti...

Yeah but you either have a monitor that supports digital signal or a motherboard that has a DVI-I port.
