makes sense..a dvd keeps you busy for what 2-3 maybe 5 hours? a short game entertains you for atleast 6hrs all the way up to 30hrs...way more value for you buck in a time when every cent counts ;)

I thought the poor game companies were practically destitute, on the verge of moving into cardboard boxes and drinking methanol because of copying. I also start to worry when I barely clear $30 billion in sales.

It would be more interesting to see which typically makes more over its sales lifetime. By the time a movie gets to DVD it has usually broken even through a cinema release and movies will usually sell more steadily. Important since a special effects laden movie costs at least an order of magnitude more than a game to produce. Effectively infinite copyright periods and greater longevity mean a movie can carry on earning money for decades (and probably centuries if the lazy bums at movie studios have their way), whereas games will usually have a fairly short lifespan despite enjoying the same infinite copyright period. They do make up for this by charging exorbitant prices.

I'm not entirely surprised that DVD sales have dropped off. Most people's collections must be getting fairly saturated.
