Mecer UPS

Had to connect the PC to power directly to test, when it does the 10 second self test the fault alarm starts and does not stop..... no faults are actually recorded on the software.

Is it the battery or the UPS that died? What kind of doorstop do I have now?

Is there a way to force discharge the battery?

I don't wanna open the damn thing but it looks like I will have to.....

You have killed the batteries by discharging them too far and too often. Some batteries can have as few as 5 to 10 cycles with a 96% Depth of Discharge.

I never discharged them though. I always tuned off the PC and UPS when the power cut.

Agree with this. Happened to my RCT UPS batteries. I was either sleeping or not at home during power cuts so I could not shut down normally. Batteries eventually died. 5 to 10 cycles is about right with cheapo batteries.

Same with me and RCT ups.
It was used to power internet during load shedding so would often fully discharge.
Now have gizzu type and it works much better but sitting with the RCT door stop. How do you even get rid of them ?

Just replace the battery, it's usually the same ones your alarm uses, very cheap to replace. Then you can either sell it as a working UPS or put it back to use.

I'd gladly take it off your hands if we were in the same province.

OK so getting new batteries..... looking on Geewizz I see:
Forbatt
Nova
Securi-Prod
Power Kingdom

Does the brand matter in these batteries?
