Anyone have any more information regarding the Virgin Mobile Festival apparently happening in Cape Town (16th Dec) and Joburg (13th Dec) in December? The lineup is being announced tomorrow, I hear.

It could be related to the NIN rumours that have been going around lately as I see they played at the Baltimore VMF in August.

Anyone have any more useful information?

Edit : Some more info

http://www.virginfestival.co.za/

Tickets go on sale on 16 September 2008 through Computicket. Students R325; General Admission R495 and Golden Circle R600.

... and within a few days we will be sick of hearing about it! Just wait a day, I'd say.

hmm...a little more digging around on the http://www.virginfestival.co.za site and I came across this http://virginfestival.co.za/swf/virginsite.swf , which appears to be the site that will launch tomorrow. It appears to also list some artists, which are supposed to be announced "exclusively by Gareth Cliff tomorrow morning on 5FM". Guess I beat him to it... Whether this is just test data is another story (please, please, please let it just be test data)...

ONE REPUBLIC
American Rock band, One Republic hit the public eye with their smash hit Apologize in 2007. As of June 14, 2008, Dreaming Out Loud album sales were over 1.5 million worldwide. The band's second single, Stop and Stare, has also crossed the 2 million mark in terms of worldwide single sales.

MAROON 5
Maroon 5 have enjoyed great success with their debut album Songs About Jane going platinum and triple platinum in many countries. "The album is aggressive, upbeat and pounding", says lead singer Adam Levine. It is clear why Virgin Festival by Virgin Mobile have brought Maroon 5 here for the best day of the summer.

EDDY GRANT
The legendary Eddy Grant has had phenomenal success as an artist and producer. Eddy is recognised as one of the first black artists to successfully mix social commentary with pop music (Electric Avenue and Gimme Hope Jo’'nna). He is partnering with the late, great, Lucky Dube's band to perform at Virgin Festival by Virgin Mobile.

SNOOP DOGG
Snoop Dogg is an all-out pop culture icon and household name. Snoop comments on his latest album Ego Trippin' "I wanted to make something that is true to where I'm at as a musician and not just play connect the dots. It's a record that is free of constraints. It's just me doing me".
hmmm...that's more of a bubblegum pop festival...

TOTALLY!!! Feels like i'm complaining a lot today but jeez, after all the hype for this festival & comparing the international V-fests, what a load a junk. I'm definitely not paying R325+ for something like this.

i notice that some more (local) bands have been added to the lineup, so looks like that original international lineup wasn't some cruel joke...

What would be a good lineup?

they havent announced all of the bands yet anyways...
Off the top of my head...

Coldplay, Muse (again), Radiohead (would be awesome), Queens of the Stone Age, Pearl Jam.. to name a few :D

And of course Slipknot, wouldn't that be funny.

there are still 10 to be announced. not sure how many are international. looking at the current list none are headline acts so we could be in for something good.
