Does anyone know if you can use a Virgin Mobile sim card in the new Cell C USB datacard?

Hi Arzy

If you are referring the the Cell C USB modem, yes the Virgin Mobile SIM card will work.

To smooth the customer experience though Cell C has hard coded our APN (internet) into the modem's dashboard software. To access the Virgin Mobile APN (vdata) you will need to create a separate dial up connection.

The extra initialization command string in the modem's advanced properties will need to be set to at+cgdcont=1,"ip","vdata"

Cheers

Have you tried to use the VM sim in the Cell-C USB modem?

Because I want to know if its locked.

And how about when Vodacom finish upgrading their EDGE network in Cape town (which is quite far already) and then they reduce their data tariffs to 40c per meg in response to VM

Hi

We have tested the Virgin Mobile SIM in the Cell C mobile USB modem and it does work. Unfortunalty MTN and Vodacom's SIM cards will not work in the modem as it is network locked.

C for youself
