Hey all

So i got my new system, thanks for all your advice on that - quick reminder
E8400 3.0Ghz, 4gb Ram, 500Gb Hdd,

Vista 64 Sp1

Question:

I can be running IE7 (which consumes huge memory - did the reset thing last nite, dunno if it helped) or photoshop and illustrator, still does this -

Thing is this - i can click on a app, and it will take 2-3 seconds to respond, then the system locks, then it all comes back... surely this is not bcs cpu is struggling, the cpu/ram is barely being used ...

A known Vista fault? Ie7? AVG? (avg is not running though)

Any help guys, this is a brand new system, onlt started doing this recently... and AVG picks up no malicious stuff...

Thanks again...

Howzit. Do you have user account management still running on the machine? If so, disable it on your user profile in control panel, restart and see if she still does that.

Go to advanced power options and make sure the stupid OS isn't turning your hard drive off after X minutes being idle.

I hate to say this, because you probably have your reasons for using IE7, but try to see if the problem goes away when you use another browser.

How big is your pagefile? Set it to times 3.8 of your total ram and try again ;)

hey all

First off, im considering changing to Xp 64, would that be a bad move? would my processor and board be compatible with it?

The Stealth, thanks but, how could that be affecting this? is this under 'uac settings'?

General + froot yah i think ie7 sucks, sucks my memory, and vista is using my pc power too i think...

killa-any solution?

Very strange! I'm running Ultimate 64bit for around 10 months now, with no such problem. I think it's a user error :p

I found IE7 to be very RAM intensive, both under XP and Vista. Your box would be compatible with XP64. However, I believe (or rather hope and pray) that Vista will become a little better (or rather a lot better).

UAC did prove to be a little annoying. I just switched mine off and had a lot less problems to sort out.

I just moved to Firefox and completely forgot about IE7, which did sort of allow my pc to run faster.

Creativecontrol: I fixed a similar problem by hunting for new drivers. Found some even newer than the ones on the mobo page.

creative it looks like my 6000 page file seems to be doing the job im going to reboot and test later when im done with work

will let you know but try setting your page file to 6000 and tell me if it helps

dont move 64 xp man, good OS bad drivers for just about everything from printers scanner sound cards

horrible driver support

i dont think it has driver support haha

only thing since going from 0 page file to 6000mb page file

windows is now using 2gb memory, maybe a restart will help haha

XP64 does apparently have a better driver support now than a while ago. I also suggest that you stay with Vista64 and maybe, if all else fails, to reinstall. But only as a last resort.
