Killadoob, why dont u use fullstops and caps? Your post must be read twice to understand ??

i put all my points on a different line

how u have to read it twice is beyond me

big page file FTW

set my page file to 6000mb and that hdd spinning rubbish is gone

corel now opens twice as fast as windows xp, finally the only reason i disliked vista has been resolved by a huge page file

tera love ya man :)

thanks

Once again you guys are always flippin helpful...

I switched off uac, and it seems to be quicker... thing is my pc sits at ..99gb of memory usage when idling, normal?

Page file is running at... 1336/8226M normal?

Surely my pagefile should be big enough with the amount of ram i have? or is that not linked? (its a weird thing, like i click on a tab and it jams for a 2seconds (vista wheel of death - then opens) mmm...

So it seems i should stay with Vista, but how about swopping to Firefox or jus changing the page file works?

Should this be happening on a brand new system with these specs?

It should not be happening at all, but this is Vista you are talking about. That is why I converted to open source...

I used to enjoy Aero until I realised it took the fun out of my 2GB RAM. I find Compiz a lot more fun than Aero. It also only uses 50MB RAM!!!

As far as I can see that is what my Aero is using as well. The biggest entry in my processes list though, but DWM (Desktop windows manager) uses just over 50MB. What else would relate to Aero in RAM usage?

I normally suggest Vista and XP machines take the amount of RAM in megabytes and multiply it by 3.8 for instance 1024 X 3.8 = 3891, so you round that off to 3895 for instance and set the initial value half of that, @ 1947 and the maximum size 3895.

I've been doing this as far as I can remember, even on my little laptop and I've had no issues with apps "pausing" my pc ;)

I know this may sound OT, but I've also read that there's a SP for Corel (X-something) and also some or other fix/patch for IE7 that supposedly eliminates the jerking. If a page file adjustment sorts it out, then f*&k it!

64 bit is alot better

i have use both and 64 bit is just that little bit faster

if you ever used xp 64 you'll know how much faster 64 bit is than 32 bit, well it seems like it anyway

plus its harder to make a virus for a 64 bit OS

I think you forgot to mention that some applications and processes, eg encoding a music track, takes about half the time on a 64-bit OS than on a 32-bit OS. Go check it out on www.tomshardware.com. Really mouth-gaping-stretching differences.
