they should. the RC1 of Vista still has DX9c support and should run your games.

I am waiting to obtain my RC1 copy to setup at home for testing. Currently running BETA 2 at the office but the work's PC video card is a measly FX5200 so i cant really run anything decent on it. :p

A point of interest, Although though Vista is the launch platform for DX10, Vista itself is written against directx9, so support will always be there.

The differences are too great to to a piecewise upgrade apparently, they have different driver architectures.

only difference most noticeable is in the shader models.

for example : Flight Sim X uses Dx9c but has enhancements for DX10 so it can still run on your current rig, yet it would benefit from a DX10 OS and card.

i would reccomend a 2nd HDD. thats what i am going to do just in case i get grief with some software/games/hardware i currently have.

you CAN dual boot from the same HDD but the usual PROGRAM FILES folder evil might confuse your windows copies on the PC.

My copy of Vista RC1's DXDIAG says its already running DX10 ... obviously backwards compatible with DX9,8,7 etc.

have RC1 installed, but other then the interface, anybody see any usefull improvments?

I mean most people will get cored of the bells and whistles in a week and then vista will have to present something usefull other then the 'tiny bubbles' interface.

its got lekka screensavers... :p

nah, i think the OS has a more solid system core in terms of error reporting, stability and cohesion with other components of the OS.

it does require more horse power from a PC though if you go for the Ultimate version...

I remember being helluva impressed with the driver support in the last version of Vista. The "search the internet" option actually seemed to be worth the code it took to write.

i've been burned by too many RC's and Beta's. When it goes gold, I'll buy myself a copy and call it a day.

In the mean time I have a very nice vista skin on my Windows XP :)
