As many of you know, I always had a dislike for Vista. Infact I would rather have used Linux and struggled getting Windows Games to run on it. (if anyone tells me that it works perfectly, NOT ALL GAMES RUN ON CEDEGA, WINE OR CROSS OVER GAMES, sorry for the rant there)

After my fun with XP (its getting old now, seriously); Linux (I love this os I really do, but for everyday usage with the odd game, sorry but not yet)

I sat my self down and decided I would give Vista another go (I did pay for it after all) and decided I would slipstream SP1 into Vista along with all the latest updates.

I downloaded Vlite, and slipstreamed SP1 into my Vista Home Premium (x64). Then I finally burnt the ISO and formated my PC,, removing all other Os's including my old Vista install.

After install, I immediately felt a huge improvement in Vista, better performance, more stability, increased reliability. So far this OS for me, finally feels what Vista should have been like when it was released.

At the moment, I have no desire to use another OS, unless of cause something better comes along. :D:D:D

About the best Vista re-experience I've heard of... How long has it been stable now? Trying to decide whether I should dig out my copy of Vista out of the cupboard...

Well Ubuntu Hardy has come along.....

You cannot expect that every game will run on emulators on Linux. But why not just do a dual boot and run your games from there? I have applications that do not work in Linux and I need the speed of an actual OS rather than a virtual machine so I opted again for a dual boot between Ubuntu and Vista. Works fine for me. It also is not that much of a hassle to boot into Windows if you want to play games.

The only thing that still annoys me day to day about Vista is that there is no directsound or good alternative in vista.

But... I'm going deaf in one ear it seems so Microsoft are lucky that I'm not taking my sound more seriously. :(

Hey hey, this is not a bash linux thread, and thats not what I am doing. I truly love linux and I think it has a lot going for it. I would say that in about another 6 months (or next Ubuntu release) it should be something even more special.

For everyone else, my thing what i can can not believe is that after pre slipstreaming the OS, how well it is running. So far it doesn't feel like a snail but more like a cheetah! Hey if anyone tries Vista again, I would say SLIPSTREAM SP1 into the install CD, then install the OS

It is, just download Vlite
and you can also slipstream post sp1 updates, like I did:D

Thanks... but I'm using a Pirated copy which will probably be broken after slipstreaming :D

I'll buy my home premium DVD first then do it

Hey, I'm a die hard Linux fan. Ibex is apparently (I don't do betas) going to be off the hook and beyond.

To be honest I am looking forward to Ibex, I hope it won't fail to deliver

Vist SP1 after a Windows Update is flying on my laptop as well. Mainly because the laptop had everything at default, I had minimal programs on it, so I guess it's almost the same as a default install ;)

My new install is fast atm as well. But from experience I know it will slow down again soon. Luckily I use Linux for 99.999999% of my activities. I only game in Windows, and that already is only like 0.00000005% percent of the time.

We all hope and pray it will be the ultimate rocker. It should be the final blow to start the downward spiral of the evil company Micro$oft :D

Agreed, although at the moment I think 8.04 is too buggy for a LTS release!

:( I agree. I have unfortunately managed to hit several of those along the ride. Been a little bumpy but I manage. Firefox, Kaffeine and Amarok being one of those bumps.
