i dont find sp1 has changed anything but copying of files

vista has been solid for a long time now :)

u just need to install it and think this is a load of crap

vista grows on you

Like a wart! Lol:D

@Xeo57: so i take it you run the 64bit vista version. I raed an article way back where they compared a 4GB setup to a 8 GB one and there wasn't a real discernable difference.Well not at that time at leist:p

As many of you know, I always had a dislike for Vista. Infact I would rather have used Linux and struggled getting Windows Games to run on it. (if anyone tells me that it works perfectly, NOT ALL GAMES RUN ON CEDEGA, WINE OR CROSS OVER GAMES, sorry for the rant there)

After my fun with XP (its getting old now, seriously); Linux (I love this os I really do, but for everyday usage with the odd game, sorry but not yet)

I sat my self down and decided I would give Vista another go (I did pay for it after all) and decided I would slipstream SP1 into Vista along with all the latest updates.

I downloaded Vlite, and slipstreamed SP1 into my Vista Home Premium (x64). Then I finally burnt the ISO and formated my PC,, removing all other Os's including my old Vista install.

After install, I immediately felt a huge improvement in Vista, better performance, more stability, increased reliability. So far this OS for me, finally feels what Vista should have been like when it was released.

At the moment, I have no desire to use another OS, unless of cause something better comes along. :D:D:D

see - you dont need to believe all the propoganda spewed out by slashdot and other such publications. wish more people had your attitude and gave Vista a try.

albiet i am switching from vista to xp on my laptop as i want more speed :D

You know what I think a problem is with a lot of people when it comes to Vista. (talking about people with the hardware that can run the os) They tried Vista when it first came out, had problems and ever since then have only hated the OS.

Personally I also though XP was terrible (as did a lot of people) it was only after a few updates etc did it work. I feel the same can be true for Vista:cool:

i tried it when it first came out on my old computer which was fairly good machine and Vista was plauged with probs - consequently i found out one of my RAM modules was corrupt and tried again - but yeah felt like a slug on my old machine.

new machine has been running vista for about a year now and i am pleased to say it has not gotten bloated or slow, but has somehow only maintained with a distinct sense of speed improvement after applying SP1.

I enjoy XP - although after using XP it feels old... MAC OSX is another personal favourite and one day I shall try Linux - the problem however is i have no real use for Linux as between OSX and Vista all my needs are fulfilled.

Ha you are beaten again, *evil laugh*:D

Oh good grief if Windows 7 is like Vista "before SP1" then I'll stick with Vista. Wait that sounds like a debate I know already!

I have it on good authority that M$ are going to try and make it a wortwhile OS and "try" to get Vista up on the same confidence level as XP has been. Face it, XP has not exactly been a let down in terms of performance or reliability. Could have been better, but it worked. Now that is what they are aiming at.

Would the OP care to explain how slipstreaming SP1 has resulted in better performance than simply installing the service pack as per the typical methods?

Also, does vLite stop content protection from stealing processor cycles, degrading VPU performance amongst other things and generally fscking up the industry? (http://aaxnet.com/info/vista_cost.txt)

Frankly I think you are fooling yourself with the blend of a fresh install and vLite.

I have a Media Center pc (Fujitsu-Siemens Scaleo E) running WinXP Media Center edition. It's used exclusively as a Media Center (TV, Movies, Music etc), no games.

Is Vista worth the upgrade in this department ?

Only one way to answer that, no!

He was using Vista for the first time with SP1, he just used Vlite to integrate the service pack as this saves time, and you can cut out quite a few services/features right from the install.

From his first post he doesn't say anything about Vlite itself resulting in better performance, he's rather talking about SP1 as far as I can see.

Thank you very much, *was going to reply now* but you have hit the nail on the head. I was referring to the fact how much simpler and faster Vista is (from the start) if you have already slipstreamed everything instead of having to do it afterwards.

Not to mention the amount of time you save

So bottom line: you are saying that SP1 has made a huge difference to your experience?

Obviously I cant knock that but my experience* has been wholly underwhelming - as another poster mentioned: the only thing that SP1 has done is make copying a little more (and still not acceptably) quick.

Windows XP Media Center is actually a fun version to run. I used to have it. IMHO, keep it.
