Hello,

Im on my second 3G cell phone and I am stil having issues with my internet connections dropping when the cell phone switches from a 3G signal to a 2G signal and vice versa . I also purchased a 64k sim card to see if this would fix my problem but no luck! I have an N90 and have also tested connections on a 6680 so maybe its a nokia thing lol! If anyone knows how to fix this I would be very glad!

Yep, having the same problem on my Nokia 6680, with 32K sim. Sometimes I switch it onto GSM only mode, or 3G only mode which seems to help. I'm using the original firmware, so maybe it can be sorted out by a firmware upgrade?

Cheers, Nick

Solution on 6680 is to use netmon and lock it to 3G I've posted it before but nokia is the only 3G manufacturer not to include the option to lock to 3G apperently they fixed it from the N91 i think.

On the N90 I can lock to UMTS but the signal strength around my house for 3G is very erratic(it doesnt help having the N90's antenna in the bottom of the phone either) so if I lock to 3G I loose my signal half of the time!

Yep, same problem. When I lock 3G, it sometimes looses all signal completely.

Gunny, you would not perhaps know where I can find a copy of NetMon / ftd.sis ?

This is the only link I could find and it was no good.

I use a Huawei E620. In 3G Only mode it stays connected until the reception is obsolete. When I use 3G preferred and the signal is too low the the connection also drops whe it changes to 2G.

The Nokia 2G/3G issue can be solved by a firmware upgrade as it is an algorithm on the phone that decides when to switch.

Well i also experience this problem on my Sony Ericsson V600i, I'll be on MXit travelling down the coast dropping in and out of 3G range, and sometimes it will drop the connection all together and sometimes it will stay "stuck" on 3G and lose total signal, and sometimes it will switch perfectly. ive gotten used to it though.
